I don't see it happening. The Nextbox for sure will be announced next year at either CES or E3 but its not gonna launch till 2013 for mostly one major reason. Halo 4.

For those saying this isn't true and pointing to the great Xbox 360 sales this year, don't you think its smart to launch a new console while your old one is still popular? It would be pretty stupid to wait until your current console becomes irrelevant before launching a new one. Just look at whats happening to Nintendo. Wii sales are bad and the Wii U won't launch until holiday 2012. Ouch. I can definitely see a new Xbox in 2012. A new Playstation? Sure if you count the Vita. Microsofts advantage here is that unlike Nintendo and Sony, they only have 1 platform to worry about. Nintendo has 4(DS, 3DS, Wii and Wii U). Sony has (PS3, PS2, PSP and Vita). Microsoft has (Xbox 360).

As am I.

no next ps3 or 360 announcement or release next year, gta5 and halo 4 are only releasing on current gen consoles hard to believe that these big games will release along side new HW that wont play em, more likely a year after these SW release

at ms's 2012 e3 they will show halo 4 and gta5 stuff

2013 will announce next x-box along which i believe a fall 2013 release, as for next ps3 could be fall of 2013 aswell but i believe 2014 will be its WW launch

Pretty sure Xbox 720 and PS4 WILL have backwards compatability.

Next year we´ll get a look at the new Xbox, the finalised WiiU and perhaps even the PS4, but as for launching next year, I still think only the WiiU.

Just because some developers are getting dev kits soon for 360's successor. that does NOT mean it's coming out next year! It's going to take alot longer than a year for companies to get games ready to launch for next-gen systems (excluding the Wii U which will most likely just receive straight ports of most multiplat titles for the time being)... hell, some developers have had Wii U kits since the beginning of this year, and it's not coming out till holiday 2012.

And on top of that, two of the biggest games of next year so far are Halo 4 and GTAV, and both been confirmed as 360 titles and not "next-gen" software, so why the hell would M$ launch an expensive new console with no killer apps to back it up at launch???

ps3's was scrapped in favor of saving costs. Its possible the ps4 will as well.

360 just has emulation software which is somewhat buggy and doesn't work with all games.

With GTV, Halo 4, and CoD releasing on current gen consoles next holidays I don't see how microsoft will be able to convince anyone to buy a nextgen xbox during holidays 2012.

Then again the 360 didn't really sell well its first year. Maybe microsoft only wants the more "hardcore" gamers who buy more games to invest in their console initially if it does end up being sold at a loss initially.
