#12) World of Warcraft (PC)

I have a love-hate relationship with many games on my list, such as the ridiculously fun Kirby's Adventure, which excels in every aspect except the difficulty, or Metroid Prime 3, which is beautiful, interesting and controls like a charm, but is hindered by the story that is pushed on your face, (relative) linearity and the lack of fluid exploration. They have me alternating between singing their praises and cursing profusely at them.

But no game on my list does it more than World of Warcraft.

I positively loathe the game for reducing more interesting three-dimensional characters than I can count into DBZ-esque Mary/Marty Sues or utterly shallow raid bosses who get killed by 10 or 25 ragtag no-names and are then utterly forgotten about. The Dungeon and Raid Finder features could also use a lot of refinements.

But it's still an incredibly intricate virtual world that you can just lose yourself in for longer than what's healthy. Successfully taking down a raid boss and collecting the spoils of your victory is as gratifying as ever, many of the quests introduced in Cataclysm are fun and inventive, and if you're capable of blocking out the occasional somewhat frequent ever-present annoying twats, PvP Battlegrounds can be a real blast.

Sky Sanctuary Zone is my ringtone.

Sonic & Knuckles is truly an amazing game. Glad you and Mr Khan are also really big fans. ^_^

Mr Khan's only a fan of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. He ain't no true fan like us!

Some swell choices on your part, too. Such as...

#11) Resident Evil 4 (GCN/PS2/Wii)

I never truly grasped the concept of "satisfaction" until I bought Resident Evil 4 and blasted the first oncoming motherfucker straight in the face.

#10 Zelda, Ocarina of time played on N64, released 1998

I guess everyone knows this game and if not shame on you. It's actually my 2nd favorite Zelda game. An awesome adventure in a wonderful world with a great set of characters.

My favorite dungeon was the water temple. I don't know why people had so much trouble with it, I loved it. I actually had trouble in the beginning inside the whale. I couldn't spot one of the doorways on my crappy 14 inch tv and kept running in circles. The overworld, cities and dungeons are all great, only the end fight could have been a bit shorter for me.

Skyward sword is on my to play list, hopefully it has the same magic as oot and my nr 1 Zelda game up next.

13 - Mass Effect 2 (ps3)

A pure quality title, I only thought the middle part of doing missions for your allies dragged on a little too long and that the ending was a little underwhelming. Mass Effect 1 has the better ending, but a weaker start.

Aww yea. I agree about the ending being a little underwhelming (expected more from Omega 6), but this is an awesome game and probably the game which had the most thought put into it (I.e. had a very believable atmosphere, with lots of dialog you actually care about. It also had exceptional pacing).

It's time to play catch up before we start the top 10

#15: Pokemon Gold/Silver (GameBoy/DS)
Release Date: October 14, 2000
Last Year: #16

Favorite New Pokemon: Tyranitar
Coolest HeartGold/SoulSilver Change: Secret battle with Geovanni

#14: Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo 64)
Release Date: February 10, 1997
Last Year: #15

Favorite Track: Bowser's Castle
Always Tried: To land on the Boat in DK's Jungle Parkway

If you hit the boat on DK Jungle, you just go trough it. I've landed on it a few times for shits and giggles.

Bowsers Castle is also an amazing map, but it's the only map that rubberband AI would ever get a lead on me with. Still, best Bowser Map and I think my second favorite map in All Mario Kart.

Also I agree about Pokemon. Just starting the game on DS, but on GBC it was awesome!

My list vanished. I guess my GF saw a list of random video games and decided to throw it away. I haven't updated in a week (or more) but I'm gonna have to rewrite my top 20.  :(

Also, looking at the amount of work some of you put into this discussion and your pics makes me feel small.

10. Pokemon (Heart-)Gold/(Soul-)Silver (GBC/NDS)

Such a brilliant game, even more than the first Pokemon gen. I probably played Red/Blue more than this, and I was never even close to having all Pokemon in Silver/Gold. However, the time I spent with this was more enjoyable and I loved every bit of it. Especially the possibility to travel through Kanto again and get another 8 badges was simply awesome.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

10. Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (PC)

It's tricky to decide which was the best PES, because any between 2-6 could have been chosen, but I think this one just about edges it. It's gameplay was (and in my eyes still is) second to none, but as usual it was the Master League that made the game something special (and it's something that Konami's rivals have tried and failed to replicate). For those who don't know, you can either pick a team of fictional players or pick a real life team and try to lead them to glory, I would usually opt for a real life team, but it would always be a lesser team rather than picking a team of superstars. You'd start off in the second division and try to win your way to the top. A little added bonus was that you could customise divisions, so I always packed the first division with the best teams in the world to increase the challenge. Then I added my own personal challenge of not spending a penny in transfer fees, thus all signings would be free transfers. This effectively meant I'd be on the lookout for promising young players to pick up for free to mould into superstars, and after 5-10 seasons the payoff for this strategy was always worthwhile. There were other modes as well, but I rarely touched them. Why would I need to when the Master League was so great?

#10 - Prince of Persia (PS3/360)

A slow burn title. At the time I didn't love the game, but as the generation has progressed it's grown on me a lot. I absolutely love the art style - very much like a painting, with amazing vistas. Cue screenshot:

And yes, for once it actually looks like that in-game (better in fact).

The combat sucked, but it's great to traverse around this huge, varied world, healing the lands. The music was fantastic, the interactions between the Prince of Elika grew on me over the course of the game, particularly the Prince's Uncharted-esque one-liners, and the platforming was smooth and fun. I really want a sequel, although I fear it would take away from this title's uniqueness if there was one, so maybe it's better off standing alone.

Loved it. It's my 2nd favorite prince of persia game. I didn't really mind the combat, I had too much fun getting all the orbs. What did suffer for me was the lack of story. A more lineair approach would have been better imo. Speed runs were great though.

My friend got this game with his 360, and I agree. It's not a title you would think that you would love, but it grows on you. The story is typical PoP, but no cheesy enemies with 1 liners. Just a funny guy who lost his Donkey helping a cute girl out.

Also I liked the combat, I thought overall this was a very polished game, and that's why I like it. Got all 1001 seeds.
