Forums - Sony - "Passport Program" Announced, Vita PSN Discounts for UMD Owners

Well, it's not a bad trade off, I guess. You still have the choice keep some, if not all of your UMD games if you are a retail whore, sell it after registering the game to neutralize somewhat the effect of re-buying the game or just do nothing at all and play your PSP games in your PSP. I guess the disadvantage with the latter there's no improvement whatsoever about gameplay or graphics.

As for me, I've gone digital ever since I've bought my PSP, so no harm done.

I got a PSP for PSP games. Not sure where people get this sense of entitlement that everything they ever bought needs to be playable on next gen hardware. My car doesn't play cassettes. My DVD player doesn't play VHS tapes. My DS doesn't play GBA games (or at least a few of DS's don't). So why should the PSV automatically play PSP games?

The arrival of the PSV doesn't stop your PSP from working. If you want to play Crisis Core, bring your PSP. I carry my 3DS and PSP in a little (okay, not so little...) wallet when I can't decide which games to play. It's no big deal. Plus, I quit buying UMD's almost instantly when I began downloading titles from the PSN.

If you can play your old games on new hardware, be thankful. That's awesome of Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft. If you can't, so what? That's life. I swear, some of the things we gamers complain about....

The price is retarded. The fee should be somewhere along the lines of $5 or less because you already own the damn titles.

With that said: I got some bad news! This *IS* the future. XBLA and PSN titles will no doubt go this route, charging you $2-3 for that $5 or $4 for that $10 title you want to play on your 720/PS4. You can quote me on that for years to come.

It's just that simple.

Yes! I'll definitely be doing this, excellent news.

I can't believe all the ungrateful people complaining it should be free, anyone with half a brain should know that isn't possible.

tehe... all the psp games i own are digital already.
PSP GO FTW!!!

I don't care about the price. I was just in the process of repurchasing some of my favorite games dematerialized to keep playing them on Vita. This is great news whatever the price : being able to play every game without switching from Vita to PSP is priceless!

Well, If you already have a working PSP, then play your games on that, quit whining. Seriously. I don't mind paying a nominal fee to transfer it from hard copy to digital. I do think that if you own the hard copy, 5 bucks would be a good fee, but I'm not so convinced 13-25 is worth it. I'll stick to playing them on my PSP, thanks.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

I think it's a genius idea!

It amazes me how common sense seldom prevails on these forums. No idea why people are whining when they have a fully functioning PSP.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Great post!

I also stopped buying UMD's shortly after the majority of games became available on PSN for purchase. Out of the 20+ PSP games I own, maybe 4-5 are on UMD.
