Forums - Gaming - Is it possible to play Skyrim without having played the previous games?

If you're interested in them all and you're a graphics whore, play them in order, to avoid being disappointed by the older ones' graphics, otherwise it shouldn't be necessary.

Nope. Skyrim can read your memories and if you don't have any about the other Elder Scrolls games, it won't start up for you.

How does the game play? Is it like Diablo?

What? Please don't pretend that you don't know. You're a member on a video game site, I think you should know what Elder Scrolls is.

I have no idea what Elder Scrolls is except that it is a Western type RPG. Since Diablo is one of the only western type RPGs I played (and rather disliked), I just asked. The vies is first person, but if it is pretty much hack and slash, I want to know.

Also, I am a Nintendo only guy, with the exception of the PS1. How should I know?

Well, sorry for being so self contained (or whatever the proper word is). The whole world doesn't circle around Elder Scrolls after all even if mine does lol.

It is a first person action RPG. It's not hacknslash and not similar to Diablo in the least. Think of first person melee combat rather than isometric hacknslash.

I am playing it with Third person view and I find it better. You should tell people that if you plan on advertising the game to maximize sales potential.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. But third person still ain't implemented very good in Skyrim.

do you have too? no, but it would be a good idea to read a timeline of events of at least what you did in oblivion, preferably the whole series though.
however, like all games of the series if you care about the story background there are books in game, and people to talk to about the events

example, in oblvion on the streets would talk randomly about some events outside the game world, like how skooma smugglers are bringing in sugar from elsweyr
