WHAT the heck ?!

http://www.lensoftruth.com/skyrim-ps3-xbox-360-install-sizes-revealed/

If this is true.. and this game on the 360 only takes up 4 gigs of HD space ( on a full install ).. this explains why the game looks better when playing from the disc.. It means the game doesnt install the HIGH Resolution textures for some reason when doing a full install..

This would account for why the game looks better when you don't install it and play it from the disc ! This would definately account for why ppl are saying the german youtube video shows low res textures because it was installed to the HD...

i learn one thing with this thread , never post this vs again :S

btw i am playing in my ps3 , the lens of thruth pics are right

it may sounds fanboyism i think you can edit the thread and put every(about 5 i think)screenshots/videos comparsion to there

I cant verify it for a for a few  more days, but the comparison video most people are looking at supposedly used the low resolution textures of the 360..

Also.. this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhHLuDL3DEA  says even by running the game from Hard drive alone on the 360 it will show lower quality textures..

Other then that the only question in my mind is ( regardles of whether the quality is better or not )  how did they get that much content on one DVD for 360 owners when Blue Dragon which had less content and lower quality graphics came on 3 DVD's..  Is it possible they compressed data on the 360 version ?

Looking at format limitations of DVD ..There is no reason the game shouldn't look alittle better on bluray because its possible to put bigger textures on a disc with more space.  This is why BF3 has an extra disc for 360 owners.. so you can enjoy the high resolution textures ( if you care to load them... mostly meaning: if you have a 27 inch screen you might not notice much, but on a 60 inch like mine you definately will ) ...Either way Im buying this game.  The space available on DVD-  recently improved on the 360 .. Gears of War 3 was the first game to use the new XGD3 format and Epic still  only needed  to use 7.2 gigs for the longest Gears game....( they used 7.2 Gigs... but up to 7.95 gigs was possible with the new XB 360 format )... previous to this only 6.8 gigs has been available to developers... so the new format makes another GIG available.. Which is actually alot when you're already pushing the envelope..

If Bethesda can make a game a quality game of this caliber and stick it on one DVD it gives credit to the old saying that better graphics and more space alone don't equate to a better game... I think only Wii owners are gonna feel left out on this one..

WAT?

I just found out here: http://www.lensoftruth.com/skyrim-ps3-xbox-360-install-sizes-revealed/ that the full install of Skyrim on 360 only uses 3.8 GIGS! ( A DVD with the new format can do 7.95 gigs ).. Only 3.8 Gigs for Skyrim ?!  How can this be ?!

This is how... Whether it be purposeful by Bethesda or more likely a bug... - When Installing the game to the XB360 HD .. it doesnt install the high quality textures on the disc... which is why it only installs 3.8 gigs ! .. When playing ( without installing the game to the 360 hard drive ) the game uses the high quality textures on the disc ......As Witnessed here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhHLuDL3DEA )

Most of the comparisons are using the game fully installed to the 360 HD which means they are showing low quality textures !!

More then likely it is a bug...

Most of the comparisons are using the game fully installed to the 360 HD which means they are showing low quality textures !!

The FACT that a game with 100 hours of game content can even be installed using only 4 gigs ( even with low textures ) to me says there's a reason why most of the best games don't even fill an entire DVD's worth of data.. Its shocking the game's full install on the 360 is 3.8 gigs ( even with low textures  this is a feat of gaming quality ).. This could mean somehow that DVD ( which is way faster then bluray ) loads the textures better from the DVD player... Converse to this Bluray loads slowly.. The PS3 version does a 5.3Gig  mandatory install.. Which means more then likely some of this 5.3 G install on the PS3 is the textures..If you remove data from other regions ( French, chinese, japanese, etc languages - AUDIO - im talking ).. wonder how many Gigs this game actually uses ? I wouldn't be shocked if its less then people think..

I'm betting the game is less then 6 Gigs on the PS3 !

Why can i be so confident ?  The PC has higher quality textures and its full install size is only 6 gigs !!! ( http://www.dualshockers.com/2011/10/26/twitter-doubts-the-install-size-of-skyrim-bethesda-says-no-way/ )

This means for either system Bethesda's game is only a few Gigs.. which means most of the other space is High quality textures and for the PS3 Lossless high quality uncompressed audio..  How come other developers can't make great games like this ?  This is a testament to why disc space isn't always as important as whats being advertised and marketed..

So lets review ... Bethesda says content doesnt take up alot of space..

All systems the actual game is 6 gigs or less !!

Full install of 360 ( which doesnt install the high res textures ) is only 3.8 Gigs.. playing by full install plays low quality textures.  Playing from disc will give you the high quality textures...There is more data on the Skyrim 360 DVD  then a full install ( because of the high quality textures )  its unknown whether high qulaity don't load ( on ful install ) because of a bug or because the game is optimized to run better from the DVD player, which may run smoother from DVD with high quality textures then trying to run from the HD when the memory system is already heavily loaded.

The PS3 version installs a mandatory 5.3 Gigs because the Bluray player is much too slow in loading high quality textures  from disc...The game itself is likely alittle under 6 gigs.. To those observing would argue the Bluray Disc holds much more data - appearing to make the game look bigger - but this is because its holds data for all world regions ( much space is taken by  lossless uncompressed audio for all languages - unlike DVD which ships different languages per region, which is not on the Xbox version  )

The PC version full install is 6 Gigs !  ?Yes, thats right.. only 6 gigs..

There you have it folks....  Anyone wondering why most of the best games available use less then a DVD's worth of data no longer have to wonder why.. its because for the most part we really dont need it..

Bethesda has pulled off a modern day miracle.. making a game with 100 hrs of game play content, great graphics.. without the need of tremendous space..

Wait... I installed the game on my 360. Does this mean that I'm technically playing an inferior version of the gsme... Because it's installed?

I figured if you own Skyrim you'd be playing PC .. its 6 gig install is the largest and likely the best quality.. but being you own a PS3 your post is a attempted jab ?

Athough it appears the PS3 may have some streaming issues of its own: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1261305-ps3-texture-streaming-issue-pictures-inside/    The PS3 mandatory 5.3 Ggig  install of most of the game to HD leaves no option to run from disc since bluray is much too slow to make it a possible choice ..  What leaves to be determined is whether the  PS3's AND 360's streaming 'problem' is actually a mechanism put in the game by Bethesda to downscale the quality of textures when the memory systems become taxed to keep frame rates smooth..

As the 360 is having the same problem as the PS3 may... It appears that one gets the best quality using the typical 'play from the disc' option on the 360.. The display of 'less definiton'  in texture problem occurs when loading textures from the HD ( not the game disc ).. and this only occurs when you install it.. Thankfully on the 360 you have an option to play from either disc -or- the HD ( install )..
