Forums - Nintendo - UbiSoft announces Tablet for Wii!

Well it would appear UbiSoft is not willing to wait for WiiU and is copying THQ completely by releasing what appears to be almost an exact replica of Udraw. The device called Drawsome is a tablet with a stylus which you use to draw things which appear on screen. The hardware is expected to recieve software from UbiSoft in the future and they are approaching third parties to support the peripheral.

See the similarities? UbiSoft describes the tablet as "Drawsome comes out on December 6, and features a 6.5" x 5" drawing surface. As you can see in the trailer below, you can draw free form on the tablet and have it appear on your TV screen. You can also bring your creations into Drawsome games and interact with them in real time. Drawsome comes with Drawsome Artist (featuring The Smurfs) and Drawsome Sketch Quest (with 40 characters and 80 levels). Your drawings can also be shared via an SD card."

They will need a true killer app to make this work. Just copying THQ won't take them anywhere. They might do this in preparation for WiiU I guess.

I am 100% positive that THQ will announce WiiUdraw as a launch title for WiiU. I'd guess that UbiSoft is trying to establish a drawing tablet based game right now so that it can launch a similar product within the launch window of WiiU. Unfortunetly it sorta scares me that UbiSoft and THQ both think consumers want another drawing/painting game rather then some higher quality software.

Plus THQ has seen a lot of success with its drawing games on both DS and Wii, I guess UbiSoft wants a peice of the pie.

So, after seeing THQ launching a tablet for the Wii and have success (1.5mil), Ubisoft comes with their own tablet and asks for support from third parties. Oh, the hypocrisy!

I was mid interested with Udraw, but this one leaves me cold.

Yah its sort of funny because when THQ launched Udraw they asked other publishers and developers for support. Their goal was that Udraw would become a major Wii peripheral. Instead of UbiSoft supporting Udraw they decide to rip it off completely and then ask other developers and publishers to support their peripheral instead.

As I said earlier I have a good idea what both THQ and Ubi are trying to accomplish. They want to establish the brand and the game for use on WiiU. WiiUdraw will no doubt be a launch window title, and I am guessing UbiSoft wants in on it. To be honest I don't actually know why, Udraw sold 1.5-million copies which is insanely good for THQ but UbiSoft's titles often sell far higher volumes so why would UbiSoft go after such a small market?

Considering that UbiSoft's tablet wouldn't likely sell as well as Udraw and in the end it would divide the potential market. Leaving UbiSoft with far less success then THQ had and THQ with less success in the future. Maybe this is an attack on THQ, UbiSoft knows THQ is on the verge of collapse they could be trying to kill them off by destroying their revenue sources. Though that would be cruel and I'm not sure how Ubi would benefit from THQ's demise!

The thing is that if Nintendo wants, they can release a new Dr. Mario or a sequel of Art Academy and leave both THQ and Ubisoft with nothing .

And with WiiU releasing next year, you will have the same tablet gameplay with visual feedback standard on the console... so why release this now Ubisoft? Should have supported THQ if they really wanted to experiment with a tablet.
