I've been gone for a while, but have something I can add to this.

We as a retailer will be having significant gift card promotions throught the holidays on new 360's, but no official price cut appears to be on the horizon.

HOWEVER, MS is absolutley flooding the channels right now with shipments, were seeing over 3x the amount of regular shipment we normally recieve from MS so they are certainly up to something, who knows maybe a price cut IS actually coming.

is this more than last year same time?

Ya more than last year, or I guess about the same but when you factor in last year had the Slim and Kinect still being new it doesn't really make sense the quantity MS is shipping.  I'm not gonna lie 360 sales have been down for a while now in comparison to last year and most stores are already sitting at a pretty nice quantity of systems and MS is shipping a rediculous amount of 360's into stores the past two days.  Maybe they just plan on selling alot during COD or they really think Kinect is gonna push them to huge numbers over the holidays but as of right now it seems to me they are overshipping by quite a bit unless they have something up their sleeve thats gonna move some serious hardware.

Are there really any secrets anymore? Everytime something is coming out, the interwebz leaks it first. I know that the slim at E3 seemed like a big shock but there was a lot of talk of such in advance of the reveal. I think it would be cool if MS has some crazy ace up their sleeve but what the hell could it really be?

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

It's good to see you`re back.
And this is really interesting. Perhaps the anniversary will see some good deals.

well, just one or two more weeks, let us wait and see

giving gift cards away with a system is not even remotely close to a price cut. You still have to spend the full price of the system, and then the retailers hope you spend the giftcard and probably some extra money on some other big thing you wanted that now you "can't justify not getting" because you have a 50-100$ giftcard for the store. A giftcard is equivalent to some free merchendise, not to saving money.

The ps3 and wii are getting plenty of giftcard and other freebie deals as well despite their recent pricecuts. Its not something completely exclusive to the 360. What I'm saying is if you want to call it an "unofficial pricecut" then all three systems are getting ones. The wii is actually being sold for 100$ at frys soon. The ps3 is also having a bunch of deals with giftcards and free games that aren't a part of an official bundle.

That's very intriguing.

What in the heck are they up to? Are they just expecting that good of sales?

Hey maybe they are going to have a price cut AND run the gift cards, that would be cool.

There are giftcards for the PS3, too.
I don't know, maybe this is there strategy.
If there would be an official price-cut, imo it would be on 15th November.
But I don't think that there will be one.

You know a couple people have said this in threads. Can you point them out in the abundance that the 360 gift cards are coming? This week nearly every major retailer had $50 gift cards with 360s and Best Buy today and tomorrow have $100 gift cards. Only thing this week I found for PS3 was Uncharted 1 and 2 free with Uncharted 3 bundle at 2 stores.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

No offense.
I saw your other thread, I saw that there were gift cards for the ps3, too.

Now I went back and you are right, there are more offers for the xbox.

I donot believe that gift cards would be a good move from MS to beat Sony during the holidays. Sony could react easily. That was the thing I wanted to point out.

dont think sony plans on another $50 cut (gift card) with the price cut from august. MShas a great deal more freedom for promotìon. think that is why MS didnt cut price.

Wouldn't your stores have to be ordering/requesting these shipments? Or do you have some kind of auto allocation system?
