There are giftcards for the PS3, too.
I don't know, maybe this is there strategy.
If there would be an official price-cut, imo it would be on 15th November.
But I don't think that there will be one.

You know a couple people have said this in threads. Can you point them out in the abundance that the 360 gift cards are coming? This week nearly every major retailer had $50 gift cards with 360s and Best Buy today and tomorrow have $100 gift cards. Only thing this week I found for PS3 was Uncharted 1 and 2 free with Uncharted 3 bundle at 2 stores.

No offense.
I saw your other thread, I saw that there were gift cards for the ps3, too.

Now I went back and you are right, there are more offers for the xbox.

I donot believe that gift cards would be a good move from MS to beat Sony during the holidays. Sony could react easily. That was the thing I wanted to point out.

Its not that easy. If i'm not mistaken, the cost of the giftcards are most likely shouldered by MS. For Sony to react and counter this they would have to have the budget for this. But with the $50 price cut already in effect, I doubt if they have any more room to cut from their profits.

I've been gone for a while, but have something I can add to this.

We as a retailer will be having significant gift card promotions throught the holidays on new 360's, but no official price cut appears to be on the horizon.

HOWEVER, MS is absolutley flooding the channels right now with shipments, were seeing over 3x the amount of regular shipment we normally recieve from MS so they are certainly up to something, who knows maybe a price cut IS actually coming.

is this more than last year same time?

Ya more than last year, or I guess about the same but when you factor in last year had the Slim and Kinect still being new it doesn't really make sense the quantity MS is shipping.  I'm not gonna lie 360 sales have been down for a while now in comparison to last year and most stores are already sitting at a pretty nice quantity of systems and MS is shipping a rediculous amount of 360's into stores the past two days.  Maybe they just plan on selling alot during COD or they really think Kinect is gonna push them to huge numbers over the holidays but as of right now it seems to me they are overshipping by quite a bit unless they have something up their sleeve thats gonna move some serious hardware.

Wouldn't your stores have to be ordering/requesting these shipments? Or do you have some kind of auto allocation system?

No the individual stores do not place orders on the amount of 360 hardware shipped.  Corporate talks directly to MS and allocates how much we want to buy from them and distribute to stores.  Obviously both Gamestop and MS think 360 is going to have a massive holiday but I'm not sure why.  It will obviously win the America's but from these shipments it makes it appear they plan on haveing just about their largest yet and as I've stated other than some awesome gift card deals I don't really see whats gonna push major hardware, I don't think Kinect alone has the sales power to do it.

You mentioned that your stores are having giftcard deals. Could be a volume deal with MS. You have to hit xxx amount in purchase orders to get the giftcard deal. Not sure how it works for electronics but these kind of volume deals are fairly common in food and dry good products.

Mostly a price cut in Europe is needed , is the territory that MS lost a major part of its sales during the 12 months period. No price cut for North America though.
