I don't think any of those server issues are to do with Origin TBH, the servers, battle log and BF3 crashes are all separate from Origin.

Not to say Origin isn't a cheap imitation with many problems and no advantages over steam from a consumer point of view but to blame BF3's issues on it is rather strange.

The support team has all but told us that the Origin network is to blame, I got my mail (finally last night) after havig waited a couple of days. As is, the game is largely unplayable for hundreds of thousands, I'm one of them.

Really? That is weired, I wonder if they are blaming the 360 issues on Origin as well?

Of course not. The crashes and freezes are (according to them) probably a lockdown due to Origin and/or Punkbuster interfering with other programs and vice versa (however, turning off EVERYTHING before game start doesn't help). Some believe that the reason the problems persist is the Origin "rootkit" tangling with idle processes and programs when launching and running.

I don't know what the answer is, I just know that's its damn annoying, haven't been able to finish a single session in almost two days. Some would say; "oh, boo-hoo, poor thing, get a grip" and be somewhat right. However; this is a product that I have bought and it doesn't work properly so I feel entitled to be angry.

The worst part though, is EA giving us the finger by basically saying "this game is broken, but you have to try to fix it yourself". They have also tried blaming 32 bit Windows, nVidia drivers and all and everything in between but the problems affect absolutely every and any kind of hardware and OS. The console issues I have no knowledge of at all since it doesn't really interest me but I imagine that the hosting of the servers is run by the same people and hardware as the PC servers so it makes sense that if one cops out, the other follows.

Edit; one more thing. Whose idea was it to make a godamned browser based launcher?! Browsers aren't exactly known for being the most stable things... Further complicates the clusterfuck this game is becoming. For once, you have a developer and a title that are PC first and foremost and they manage to botch it like this.

I knew it was to good to be true, fact is BF3 was rushed to beat COD to market and so it's fked up.

Sounds bad. TBH I've held off from buying BF3 at this point. I want it on PC but I don't want it via Origin. I'm waiting to see if the rumours it will surface on Steam are true. Or perhaps I'll wait for price drop and try it in its smaller form on console.

But I'm not letting EA force their service on me if I don't want it.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

DRM has this funny ability to conflict with other softwares. DRM is created based on the assumption that your computer is used for playing that game only.

That might be the only certain thing I know about all this... :P Not the first thing something like this happens this gen.

so looks like you may be able to play BF3 without Origin

Yeah, there are people on the Battlelog forums who have saying as much lately. I think it might be risky though, it would be a terrible shame if you were somehow banned for using a workaround solution to avoid Origin.
At this point, I don't dare, I'll just keep on hoping that they'll get things sorted out. Its high time they did at any rate...

WOW! After waiting between 48 and 72 hours for an answer from EA support international (that says they'll get back to you within 24 hours), I sent an e-mail to domestic support in Norway. A well reasoned, quite polite and rather lengthy one at that with the simple pleas of

A: Just please someone answer my questions.

B: Talk to your customers, tell them what's going on and what you're doing to fix things

Got an automatically forwarded answer shortly after which goes somewhere along the lines of;

"Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts customer support."

"We have recently made some changes as to how we respond to our customers and you will unfortunately not recieve an answer to the e-mail you sent. If you visit (link to a page with EA global support that won't answer me at all, which is why I contacted domestic and a link to domestic FAQ which details NOTHING RELEVANT AT ALL) you'll find the answers to frequently asked questions (except the ones that matter, of course) along with information on how to contact us directly (the very same adresses I've tried for days...)."

"We thank you for your patience."

"Electronic Arts customer support."

Jesus christ, they're sending me in circles, their phone lines are impossible to get through and no people answer mails, they simply refer you to other e-mail adresses that refer you back to the initial ones or others that don't yield a reply.
This is a new kind of despicable, not only do they release shitty products, they refuse to inform you and are impossible to get a hold of!
A global company with around 10.000 employees and none can be arsed to answer our e-mail.
Holy shit, EA, I never held them in high regard but this is beyond anything I've encountered in games or consumer electronics in my life.
Holy shit.
