Forums - Gaming - Patent for biometric PS3 controller and handheld, by Sony

Would everyone hate me if I for some reason I was unimpressed by this, thought it will never see the light of day, and was under the impression this is a not so cheap "gimmick." On a positive note, the picture made it look like the back of the Dualshock had a touch pad (like the vita), which would be freaking amazing. Sony do that, don't waste your time with this idea.

Much better than the Vitality Sensor...

Play games with controllers, not by sticking my finger in a machine...

Take note, Nintendo.

to be fair.. while this looks like a much nicer solution.. in real life it's never gonna work.. a clip like the vitality sensor is much better cause it stays on you for 100 percent.. unlike this where you have to keep contact with the device yourself which is really hard.. *picks his nose*

If it's a controller like the Dual Shock, then they can place the sensors on the handles on either side, since your hands will always be in contact with them (which seems they do in the pictures).

The concept with horror games is where it probably has the most promise, but it does have promise as well with shooters and sports games as well. The way your stress level is determines your accuracy with your guns, or your accuracy when passing the ball as a QB.

This x infinity.  This is a much better way to get biometric readings that won't affect the way we play games in the least.  Nintendo's method basically restricts one hand so it can't be used on the controller.  It also makes you look like you're in the doctor's office playing the Wii.

Cooooooooool. I tend to get nervous and sweat when I play games that are really intense. If done right, this would be amazing.

Yeah, sometimes I get really into a game and my palms sweat pretty badly, so I could see this impacting my a lot if playing with this controller.

What if... Nintendo was just trolling Sony to see if they'd copy it and Nintendo never intended to make Vitality Sensor a real product?
