This is such an awesome game.

Still have the final boss left on xbox360... Got ahold on the PC version so I'ma play that now. I'd recommend playing it ont he PC instead of consoles if you have a decent gaming PC. It just looks much better.

A lab co-worker of mine got the PC version and he's lending it to me so i'll try it out in the next couple of days. How much better does it look from the console versions?

Id say significantly better if you have the gear to max out the resolution and settings. Console versions chug a little at times and for me its pretty obvious its sub HD resolution...but I do play on a 80 inch projector. On a smaller TV resolution loss won't be that noticable.

Not to say that console versions look bad. Once sonic gets moving at high speed you'll be dazzled no matter which version you play. To me a game like this and Super Mario Gallaxy are much more visually appealing than stuff like Gears of War, Battlefield and CoD. Color and art direction blending seamlessly with gameplay goes a long way...

Well i like Sonic Heroes, it was pretty much Adventure without all the stupid scavenger hunts and horrible 3rd person shooting sections. Worst  Bioware game?? Even worse than DA 2? I find that hard to believe

IMO the problem with Sonic Heroes was that there was way too much of an emphasis on teamwork. The whole "I cound never do it without you guys" story was also irritating, and it would have been much better off without Big, Cream, and the Chaotix. With all of the teamwork mechanics, and somewhat simplified story, it seems like they tried to appeal to non-Sonic gamers, and they ended up alienating their core fanbase in the process.

Sonic Heroes is one of the bestselling Sonic games ever, so Sega actually did a lot of things right. They got away from the stupid Sonic lives among humans storylines from the Sonic Adventure games and as a result got closer to the roots of Sonic than the previous 3D titles. It's the Sonic Adventure games that alienated the core fanbase, because not only is the story way overdone, but the games are also filled with crappy gameplay segments that only serve to slow the games down.

Sales numbers tell the opposite of the story you are presenting here and personally I would rate Sonic Adventure 5/10, SA2 6/10 and Sonic Heroes 8/10 (on a scale solely for Sonic games). But yeah, I am old enough to have been there when the Sonic series started, so my defintion of what makes a Sonic game is vastly different from someone who started with Sonic Adventure. The way you talk, I get the impression that your personal experience with Sonic started around then, because you see Sonic Heroes as a game that moved away from what Sonic is.

Sorry for the late reply.

Sonic Heroes selling? That's what happens when you try to branch out to extra audiences. The gameplay segments in some of the levels (especialy the Tails/Eggman levels) were pretty hectic, but they at the very least game you pure speed with the Sonic/SHado levels instead of trying to combine three unique types of gameplay into one game, at the same time.

You are right about me starting with Adventre, but that doesen't mean I never played the original 16-bit games, and saw what Sonic originally was.

I disagree, people are blinded by nostalgia, even I am.

The 3D gameplay is just as poor, if not worse than the gameplay in Unleashed. The 2D gameplay is by far the worst in the series so far, it makes Sonic 4 look like a masterpiece.

I still want to pick it up used though, for the re-imaginated levels and the music remixes.

I just played the demo.

I like it, but the 2D Sonic moves really, really fast and the camera is a lot more zoomed in than it was on the Genesis. I just don't know how to feel.

I dont know what you are smoking...but I guess you're entitled to your opinion. I will go and say that most reviews disagree with you...

Which demo did you play? I remember playing the Xbox 360 demo when it came out in april this year and being quite disapointed at visuals and gameplay. The final game is much better than that demo which looks like a pre-beta phase.

I played the 360 demo, yeah. Is the final game more zoomed out and maybe a touch slower in 2-D mode? The move speed in Sonic 2 is about the sweet spot for me, when it comes to 2-D gameplay....

Yeah I totally think they nailed down the 2D movement to the best they could with circumstances at hand. They obviously needed to mimic the 16 bit sonics but also adjust it for todays level design. 3D movement and level design its the most aproachable its been since dreamcast days but thats cause they simplified a lot of things. Not much can go wrong...

I just finished the game and it was 90% pure enjoyment. Only things I didn't like are a few frustrating side missions I had to play to get the boss keys and 2 out of 4 world bosses are not that fun.

Best Sonic game Since Sonic Adventure 2.

Generations is excellent, 2D levels are incredible, 3d levels are a lot of fun............ and content wise this game is easily worth it's £40/$60 price tag (i actually think i got a bargain, thats how good it is)
