The PS3 was able to outsell the 360 this week by ~72K. This puts the final gap at ~301K, in favor of the PS3.

Congrats have to go out to Sony for being the #1 home console of 2011, as well as it being the best year for the PS3, so far. Also, congrats go out to MS for having the best year for the 360, as well as making it a closer race than I originally believed.

Just a quick reminder, I will be updating this thread probably two more times. Once after NPD, and the other around shipment updates. That is, if any adjustments are made.

Pretty close as far as the pre-adjustment figures tally. Within an acceptable margin of error to be considered a push.

It's probably a given that the PS3 will see the largest adjustment in terms of added sales due to the greater number of markets in which it is currently available as well as the fact that the majority of Xbox sales are in the easier to track NA region.

It is looking like Kinect/360 has taken the place of the Wii as the holiday console of choice, particularly in NA.

Someone should throw up some charts to show how the sales numbers were spread over the 12 months of 2011. There would be some pretty heavy weighting in Q4 for the Xbox.

Yea same here, MS almost did it.

Pretty insane when you look back and 360 only beat PS3 for 3/12 months of sales. May, November, and December. Huge gains at the end of the year.

I await the post - NPD update eagerly.

Well Microsoft officially has claimed that 360 won the console sales race worldwide in 2011. If true, it seems that VGChartz is under tracking 360 somewhere, most likely in Europe.

Gap will end around 200k, yet you thought it was 'impossible' skirting the edge there

Yes, it was much closer than what I thought it would be, but it stil didn't happen.  So I was right, it turned out impossible.

Also, the gap is going to end up closer to 300K with next weeks numbers.

You're completely ignoring the fact X360 is up yoy more than PS3 is, by 100k.

And the fact it was still close (and could very well be ahead in shipments) shows it was not 'impossible'

You're right, we'll have to wait for shipments before all is truly said and done.  However, I fully expect adjustments to again be in favor of the PS3.

And yes, it was impossible for the 360 to destroy a full 1.5 million lead the PS3 had over it.  It's ok, you can admit it.  It won't hurt, I promise.

LOL, this arrogant post is hilarious now that Microsoft has officially claimed 360 the sales winner worldwide in 2011. Not only wasn't it anywhere near impossible, but it turned out to be reality. The only person who has to admit that they were wrong on a ridiculously stupid scale is you, it turns out.

Although i dont give a damn about who won i like to see things as they are and right now 360 looks way undertracked and Ps3 overtracked (By Sony Reports) But i really like to see that both Consoles keep selling so well, its good for the industry sine Wii is in big big big decline since last year. Ps3 performance was amazing in Sept and October, Fifa Effect ?

I wouldn't bother, he doesn't even understand what the word impossible means, how can you argue with someone like that?

But yeah he's right, we should wait for shipments, pretty sure he didn't expect X360's to be so good anyhow.
