I think some of you don't understand the difference between improbable (or highly improbable) - and impossible.

Here - (from dictionary.com)

im·pos·si·ble [im-pos-uh-buhl]
adjective
1. not possible; unable to be, exist, happen, etc.
2. unable to be done, performed, effected, etc.: an impossible assignment.
3. incapable of being true, as a rumor.
4. not to be done, endured, etc., with any degree of reason or propriety: an impossible situation.
5. utterly impracticable: an impossible plan.

Origin:
1250–1300; Middle English < Latin impossibilis. See im-2 , possible

Related forms
im·pos·si·ble·ness, noun
im·pos·si·bly, adverb

Can be confused:  impossible, impracticable, impractical, improbable.

Don't you feel bad for wasting your time posting a definition in a forum.

Impossible can depend on one's view of a certain situation.  What I think is impossible, you may see as completely doable.  By the time my OP was written, MS had already priced some of their holiday bundles, so it was obvious they weren't dropping the price of the 360.  So, in my mind, it was completely impossible for them to beat the PS3 this year.  They did make up for this with 2 months of $100 giftcards in their largest market, but it still turned out impossible to beat the PS3.

Yes - because to some posters in some forums even grammatical or linguistic definitions are a matter of opinion. Great Job!

Rightio - definitions are a matter of opinion and entirely subjective. I'd sell my dictionary  - but it's online and I don't own it. Thanks for the insight into the world and the ways that it works.

Lol, like you haven't ever said anything was impossible in your life, and yet it was possible.  Don't be so anal.  It'll make you a boring person.

You 360 fans are so funny.  First, you want to talk about hypothetical situations that would have made the 360 and statistical ties or moral victories.  Now, you want to argue about the use of a word.  Keep it up.  You guys are priceless.

This thread is everything that is wrong with gaming. Who cares what outsells what? None of you guys stand to benefit if either the Xbox or PlayStation 3 'win' in terms of overall sales. So why do you insist on becoming so emotionally involved in a bunch of numbers that bares no reflection as to how much joy you'll get out of your respective investments?

What you guys need, is a life outside gaming. Especially the above two pricks, who are clearly professional fanboys* in every sense of the word.

*Based on the following assumptions
One idiot has 360 sales data in his signature, clearly his life (or lack thereof) depends on whether or not the Xbox sells X/Y/Z number of units. Radically defends any attack of the 360, in terms of sales and most probably hardware/software wise also.

The other idiot is clearly a PS3 fanboy as he's most definitely arguing with the 360 fanboy as to who's black box is better. It's highly likely he has died a little each week for the past month or so as the 360 has eaten into the PS3's 'lead'. Is desperately trying to defend what's looking to be an insignificant victory for the PS3 with little more than a couple of thousand units in the balance. All the while the Xbot is maintaining it could go either way, and if the PS3 were to emerge the victor, he'd probably kill a kitten in spite.

I have sigs turned off so I can't remember my sig. Is it the one with some chicks or the one with Mel Gibson humping Jim Caviezel?
