I think some of you don't understand the difference between improbable (or highly improbable) - and impossible.

Here - (from dictionary.com)

im·pos·si·ble [im-pos-uh-buhl]
adjective
1. not possible; unable to be, exist, happen, etc.
2. unable to be done, performed, effected, etc.: an impossible assignment.
3. incapable of being true, as a rumor.
4. not to be done, endured, etc., with any degree of reason or propriety: an impossible situation.
5. utterly impracticable: an impossible plan.

Origin:
1250–1300; Middle English < Latin impossibilis. See im-2 , possible

Related forms

Can be confused:  impossible, impracticable, impractical, improbable.

Impossible can depend on one's view of a certain situation.  What I think is impossible, you may see as completely doable.  By the time my OP was written, MS had already priced some of their holiday bundles, so it was obvious they weren't dropping the price of the 360.  So, in my mind, it was completely impossible for them to beat the PS3 this year.  They did make up for this with 2 months of $100 giftcards in their largest market, but it still turned out impossible to beat the PS3.

Yes - because to some posters in some forums even grammatical or linguistic definitions are a matter of opinion. Great Job!

Rightio - definitions are a matter of opinion and entirely subjective. I'd sell my dictionary  - but it's online and I don't own it. Thanks for the insight into the world and the ways that it works.

Lol, like you haven't ever said anything was impossible in your life, and yet it was possible.  Don't be so anal.  It'll make you a boring person.

You 360 fans are so funny.  First, you want to talk about hypothetical situations that would have made the 360 and statistical ties or moral victories.  Now, you want to argue about the use of a word.  Keep it up.  You guys are priceless.
