Sweet - goodbye region free movies, hello region locking!!!!!! I am too excited!

Hello more space for better encoding, unscratchable discs (far more important than your whiney complaint), and just 1 standard.  The region coding is much better than DVDs, as others have stated.

Important is a relative term. Just because you may scratch a lot of disc doesn't mean other people do, just as some may enjoy the freedom to import movies.

I don't scratch discs, people at blockbuster do.  Scratched discs are the worst part of disc media.  Blu-ray is nearly impossible to ruin.

The region for USA includes Japan, which is what most people mean when they say they import.  Most European titles will be released here anyway.

As much as I hate to use Amazon.com as a reference...

Check eproductwars.com/dvd

Amazon is currently having a big sale on BR. A few days ago it was HD DVD that had all the Harry Potters as #1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

Look at the top selling DVD (including HD DVD and BR) players:

#1 and #2 are HD DVD players, #3 is a DVD player and #4 is BR

RIP HDDVD

It sucks that the studios will not allow us consumers to decide.

I chose HDDVD because it was cheaper - I don't really care of the specs. Movies are awesome on HDDVD.

I would have bought movies made by Disney and others if they will release them on HDDVD.

Looks like the war is coming to an end - and I will choose DVD. Was thinking about BR, but not gonna happen for a long time.

Yeah, sales on amazon have fluctuated those numbers on eproductwars.  However, with Warner and Newline now blu-ray only, all future Harry Potter and LotR will be only on blu-ray.

Yeah, it's pretty much the death bell for HD DVD.  Not dead yet, but they'd need one helluva comeback to win this.  I'll probly load up on some Sony stock Monday when the market opens.

??? It isn't as bad as it seems. Planty multiregion movies out there. I import stuff from US quite often. Also some region 2 marked movies works everywhere.

Well we all knew this was going to happen. I mean, Blu Ray has more capacity, so there will be more content and higher resolution and sound. Simple.

And I know I keep saying this, but both formats are stubs. Downloadable streaming movies is the future and we all know it. Some of us might even be getting our content this way already (albeit illegally)

Higher resolution?  What planet do you live on that provides better than 1080P?
