PS4 will fail, nowadays people are more into the Xbox, its the better selling console in US and UK the two biggest countries. The only reason PS3 did well is because people who were loyal to PS2 waited.

But now the Xbox 360 doubled its sales from the Xbox whereas PS3 isnt even a third of the PS2. Seeing as both consoles have pretty much the same lineup anyway there will be a bigger shift towards Xbox next gen.

Xbox will dominate more in US and UK than it already does and other European countries will turn towards the Xbox just like UK did. And PS4 wont survive with just Japan.

PS4 will pull a dreamcast.

PS3 still has a massive market in Japan and i am from the UK and i will be hoping to get one. I must say though your evidence is worrying for the average sony fan but i think those loyal enough will stick with it

Playstation has the advantage with Japan, i cant see them ever taking to an American console, they barely buy American games. Japanese companys are gonna support their own and if they decide to only bring games out on the PS4 alot of people would miss out on MGS, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo etc

There all popular so that could save them, but with Xbox having such a growth in US and even in UK where it outsells the PS3 (and i didnt know anybody who had the original Xbox at school) if they only get bigger then PS4 is gonna lose out.

I hope it doesnt but i can see it happening.

Around the Network

PS4 needs to have upgradable GPU!!!

make a $350 PS4 with a good GPU and a slot in the back of the console to connect a external GPU direct to the motherboard. Then sell a very good external GPU for $200-400 on the launch(or not, maybe later)

Ps.: Every game needs to be built around the basic PS4 version. Then Sony just need to make a good dev kit to allow developers to improve the game easily. But sony needs also to allow more dedicated Devs to program
direct on the new GPU, ensuring that the gamers that bought this have a better experience.

This strategy ensures that PS4 have a more popular launch. But also ensures that the console will continue to have amazing graphics in the future.

Maybe a extra GPU would allow not only better graphics. But developers may work to make 60fps 3D games. And when Quad Full-HD releases, they should release a ultimate GPU, that supports the same games but in 3D 3820x2160.

This way, PS4 may be popular among "casual" and "hardcore" gamers.
Actually, even myself probably won't buy this thing for a while. But see what happened today, where a very cheap GPU can destroy the PS3's one.

->I will be happier, because I can buy my console by a lower price
->A few people will be happier, because they can play with better graphics
->Sony will be happier, because they can probably sell their console even more cheaply, because some people will buy a external GPU(which will generate a lot of money).

Well, why not?

My friend's cousin just started work on building PS4's for SONY, so I think Q4 2013/Q3 2014 will be the time frame.
