I picked up forza 4 yesterday, and the ibl lighting is better than bloody godrays and the usual light and shadow found jn gears or uncharted. In forza for example depending on the level of light and the angle the colour of red on a car a for example changes shade.

Its this forward motion in technical level during gameplay that's amazing. Not like the first party studios going look how good our not actual gameplay bits look. Or the bits where nothing at all happens then tone it down when a firefight starts.

Psshhhh. Wake up people.

Idtech 5 is a brilliant engine. So is frostbite 2.0. Much more advanced than the engines behind uncharted and gears.
Its fairly simple actually.

(rages environments are completely stuck). It seems like RAGE would have to take another 30 fps off to include all the things uncharted 3 has...
I can't speak for gears 3 since I don't know anything about it, not seen much videos of it and haven't played it.

I'm not smoking anything.

To begin with, the 2x multi-sampling anti-aliasing has been removed completely. This is a good move on the part of Naughty Dog: the coverage we saw in Uncharted 2 wasn't especially fantastic and by moving to a different solution the developers can free up precious memory and bandwidth. In its place is what appears to be a new form of post-process/screen-space anti-aliasing technique we've not seen before.

It is perhaps a less exhaustive or cheaper form of MLAA and it seems to be pretty good at smoothing off long edges, but it does seem to miss a lot of jaggies we would expect it to pick up on.

From what the trailers show single player battlefield 3 on ps3 does indeed look more realistic than what I've seen from Uncharted 3. This is total BS best thing you will get on consoles?LOL!!!! They can keep saying that but the best looking game ive seen on consoles is no doubt Killzone 3.Killzone 3 has better graphics than Crysis and RAGE. I'm not to sure about BF3 though.

I think the reason people like realism is because it is a lot like the real world... but you can do things in it that you can't in our real world. People like the idea of being in a world that looks real and being able to do crazy/spectacular things in it.

Oh! and mind you, even if it's only the beta, that's already good enough to prove how superior Uncharted 3 is graphically. [sigh] Some people emit sentence before there's even a chance to judge. Then again, they had already made up their minds beforehand.
