Sony Computer Entertainment development head Yoshio Matsumoto has begun dropping hints that users who bought PSP and own UMD's will be able to download their old UMD's for a special price. Thus allowing existing PSP owners to play the games in there UMD library anytime they want on the Vita.

Additionally to support these claims Japanese game retailer reported by Andriasang claims to have received a pamphlet from Sony themselves at a Sony sales briefing recently which outlined the use of existing UMD's on Vita. 

How the service will work is anybodies guess I never brought my PSP online the whole time I owned it and didn't register the products with Sony or anything. How would Sony authenticate that you actually own a copy of the software? Then how much will this special price actually cost I hope its like 5$ or less because if I have to pay upwards of 10$ for a game I already own I will be upset.

But it would appear Sony is not about to neglect its fans reports are coming in that a big announcement from Sony could be made within days. What do you think are you excited to hear about the backwards compatibility Sony appears to be preparing to offer?

I am very excited, and hope that they can do this properly, it would also be nice if the Vita could make the games shine a bit more, but you can't really expect everything from this console, even if it is the sequel to the console designed by god

If it doesn't go pass $10, I would do that for a few of my games, probably just KH:BBS and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.

The easiest way to do this is have the customers mail their UMD disc to Sony; then Sony will email you a download redeem code. Sony can even refurbish these UMDs and sell it again.....

Well, that's kinda lame... and, sadly, expected. Can't they know if the player/user X has that game looking at their PSN history?

I wonder how much those "special price" will be.

I'd really only want FFVII crisis core and KH:BBS

hopefully it will be like a small peripheral that is JUST big enough for the umd to fit inside that attaches to the back of the vita like a backpack

i can see it being priced at $14.99

there are several games I would like to play again on the PSV with better controls, so I hope they price it nice and loooow
