Sorry, but when I think greatest ever forwards usually come to mind and I guess this is unfair, but I'll just list some defensemen that I think were just as good if not better: Orr, Coffey, Bourque, Leetch, Potvin, and by all account Eddie Shore was the best of the early era.  Also, as a defense only player (not counting offense) Rod Langway was as good as anyone that I've ever seen.

While I admit the Lidstrom is deserving of being a first ballot hall of famer, I compare him to someone like Derek Jeter.  He's a great player that was treated even greater because of the team that he was on.  I will say this, he was better than Chelios.  Now that guy was REALLY overrated.  I would know since I live in Chicago.  The Hawks had a defenseman named Doug Wilson that was better than him.

Well, I say one of the greatest because he easily fits most peoples top 20 D-man if not top 10 list of all time. I know he's not the best,  but he's been consistant through out 20 years and could easily play another season or 2. Chelios may have been overrated but the guy really did love playing hockey, not many people play around the age of 50 (except Howe of course).

Also, Off-topic but I read on NHL.com the other day that Hasek wants to return to the NHL.

Hasek is a beast at 47 he could do it. He played soccer, rode a bike, skied and did many other sports to stay fit and get back. The crazy guy rode is bike across Algeria to ski a glacier. He is an epic athlete that should not play for Detroit.

Also, missed game two, but woohoo LA won hopefully the Devils are done.

You're right about that.  He's in everyone's top 20 and definitely was consistent.  Chelios hung on too long.  At the end, he was a shell of his former self.

I really like Hasek, but at his age I would think that his reaction time has slowed.  Mine has and I'm not as old as him.  :p

We'll have to see if Hasek still has it. Thomas won't be returning next year either. I'm a little excited to see some of the moves teams will be doing during the off season.

It looks as though the Kings are going to probably sweep the Devils. There playoff run has been incredibly impressive when taking into account that they barely made them.

One of the greatest hockey players ever retired today.

Don't you think that one of the greatest ever is pushing it?  Great player, but not one of the greatest ever.

Not at all. Please elaborate.

A hall of famer yes, but not one of the greatest of all time.  Gretzky, Lemieux, Hull, Esposito, and Howe are guys that I think of when someone says greatest of all time.  He's not even the greatest Red Wing of all time.  Yzerman was even a better player than him.  Let me guess, your a Wings fan?

Everyone you just listed is a forward so it's obvious they'll have better stats than Lidstrom. There aren't many D-man that can post over 1,000 points in their career which Lidstrom did. So I'd say he's right up there with Orr, Chelios, Bourque etc. On top of that he's won the Norris trophy 7 times and the Conn Smythe Trophy once as well as make the all star team 12 times. And no, I'm a Minnesota Wild fan, I just know a great player when I see one.

And the Wings made the playoffs every single year (20 years) that Lidstrom played. Of course some of that is Yzerman, Shanahan, Fedorov, Datsyuk, etc. but Lidstrom was always there and strong on the defensive end. And their goaltending was guys like Osgood, Vernon, Hasek (at an older age), etc. so good but no goalie that could steal a game really.

Wow so the Devils put together two straight wins, can they push game 7 or will LA take game 6 at home?

LA looks really weak the last two games, I think game 6 is New Jersey's game to lose.

I was hoping the kings would lose last night so they could win it at home on Monday. I still think they've got this.

If it goes to a game seven I think that the Devils will win it all since they already won a game seven in the first round.
