The ps3 is outselling the x360 in the eu and everywhere in the world besides usa.

Except Americas and UK ...

what will happen if someone call Canadian or Mexcian is American?

That's actually what I don't understand. Why do USA people call themselves simply Americans? Are Mexicans and Canadians not Americans too?

Using this logic... I'm an American too.

Indeed, that's what I meant. You live in America after all. USA citizens refer to USA however as "America". A bit strange

Simple - USA stands for United States of America - so we shorten it to "America". Canada isn't officially named "Canadian States of America" as are any other of the countries in the Americas.

What? Where and since when?

I said it isn't.

Ohh wow... I was too tired then lol, my bad :P

Next week should easily be the biggest week in the 360's history and probably decrease the gap by 300-400k. But that won't quite be enough to breach the gap. I expect the PS3 and 360 to be much closer this year in the last week of December than they were last year especially considering last year it was so much harder to find a 360 than it is this year.

where's dodece!?

I don't know. If the PS3/360 ends up winning the year by 100k or less, then it would fall under "statistical tie" territory. A victory by such a miniscule number would be nothing to brag about (imo). If anything, I still see the 360 ahead of PS3 worldwide (overall) by the time the next Microsoft/Sony systems come around in 2013/2014.

It shouldn't be just by 100K.  The 360 will probably outsell the PS3 by ~250K-300K next week, but the PS3 will probably outsell the 360 by ~80K or so the final week.  I would guess the gap is going to end up ~350K-400K in the PS3's favor.  Then, there's always adjustments that will be made around the end of Jan-beginning of Feb.

the last week isnt so certain... I dont think it will be quite the same as last year.

the PS3 will end up outselling the 360 for the year by about 1%.

No idea why people are thinking PS3 will win the last week by such a margin. It was only 100k last year in the face of shortages. 360 is up 100k a year per week, along with no shortages, PS3 may win but not by any margin it did last year.

History.  The PS3 has beat the 360 every year that week by ~90K or over, except 2 two years.  In 2006 the 360 beat it, but the PS3 had yet to release in the majority of EMEAA.  And in 2008, the year the 360 got its first $199 SKU, but that was only by ~4K.  I took a slightly more conservative guess with ~80K in favor of the PS3 for that week.

And I think you guys are playing up the shortage excuse a little too much.  We already know MS shifted consoles that were supposed to go out in Jan/Feb to Dec to keep up with demand.  So there was most likely plenty of stock for the holiday season.  I mean sales for the first week of Jan would have dropped to just a few thousand if they had run out of stock, yet it was nearly 300K.  And that was still up YOY.

History isn't fool proof. You're can talk about the past all you like, but the fact of the matter is X360 is up YOY weekly by over 100k right now, PS3 not so much. And yes shortages, especially end of December, did play a part in lower sales last year. They also shifted 1.2m more in Q1 yoy to replenish empty shelves in the US.

And yet, the 360 was up YOY for the last week of December '10 and the first week of January this year a combined 219K.  So, with such large shortages, it was able to pull that off?  Remember 2009 saw a $100 price cut to the Elite.  You can talk about shortages all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the 360 is going to see quite a drop in the US (by far its largest region) the week after Christmas.

Another nice thread Seece. This is going to be a lot closer than most of us thought. M$ can pull it off if they sell the last 180k for a dollar. Maybe with A.Wake and Fable3 dl codes and giftcards. They could afford it! Impressive comeback though.

They seem to have changed focus from formal pricecuts to dozens of individual promos. It's probably easier to budget and control costs that way and the bigbox retailers can bring in new customers with the giftcards. If you commit early with a pricecut you can never go back. This gives them a sort of shut-off valve and the ads can be directed at a particular market or audience. Trend?

He told me that if he was wrong about his bet, then he would leave VGChartz and never return again. We never finalized the bet, but maybe he decided to leave anyway?

Its closer than I thought, but I think ps3 will still win.

Still sounds silly imo. When I talk about America I'm talking about North and South America.

It's kinda like saying Europe instead of western Asia.

Hate to say that but... virtual tie, probably. Unless the kinect fever wanes after Xmas... But either way is a defeat for Microsoft!
