That's actually what I don't understand. Why do USA people call themselves simply Americans? Are Mexicans and Canadians not Americans too?

Indeed, that's what I meant. You live in America after all. USA citizens refer to USA however as "America". A bit strange


Simple - USA stands for United States of America - so we shorten it to "America". Canada isn't officially named "Canadian States of America" as are any other of the countries in the Americas.

Still sounds silly imo. When I talk about America I'm talking about North and South America.

It's kinda like saying Europe instead of western Asia.
