Why no update, Seece? Waiting for adjustments after NPD? Or has he not been on since then?

If we were to allign PS3 and 360 launches, I agree that we can't make speculations and arguements about it. I disagree that you can push annual sales back by a year every year because the market is different each year.
Even if these types of threads die out, they will pick up in the 8th gen for those consoles.

Even if these types of threads die out, they will pick up in the 8th gen for those consoles. but if nobody post in them then they won't exsist. |
@binary solo
You are making the case for the democratization of knowledge. Which may sound noble in principle, but isn't always necessarily just. What allowance are you making for fairness, or reasonable compensation. When one puts in greater effort shouldn't they be entitled to a greater reward. Especially when the effort didn't have a guaranteed return for the investment of time. This isn't at all rhetorical. If I put hundreds of hours of time into researching a subject should I not be entitled to using that information for self gain. Especially if that gain comes at a cost to nobody else.
You are assuming my information is singular. Why not assume it is the opposite, and that it is cumulative. That it is the end result of hard won knowledge accumulated over the span of months and years. In the end what I know is not unknowable. It just takes a good deal of due diligence, and that is something everyone is capable of doing. So it isn't necessarily a unfair advantage. Just one I saw fit to give myself through hard work. While some of what I do know may come from singular sources. That doesn't mean I forgo vetting, cross checking, and devising newer methodologies.
Such as devising a way to track console failure rates. Which is what a few friends and I did during the summer. In what way is it unfair for me to know that the 360 is seeing a failure rate three hundred to four hundred times what it was last year in the month of September, or that the PS3 failure rate actually managed to go down in that exact same month. Which actually doesn't reflect the quality of the products mind you. Since the 360 is used to play games much more then the PS3. It doesn't take anything special to draw the line between that failure rate, and a corresponding increase in console sales.
This is not a question of just knowing one thing, but a whole myriad of things. Which is why I was willing to make my wager. I would be pretty fucking stupid if I was just working off of one piece of date. So there I gave you just a small little nugget. There ain't no way I am going to give you the keys to the mine. Seriously how do you think you do not have to earn something like that.
Microsoft should cut the XBOX 360 4GB model to $99.99 for black friday, that would end this discussion
Nintnedo should cut wii to $99.99 as well
@pezus
This is exactly what I am talking about. The members on this site are woefully unequipped, and terribly uninformed as to just basic trends. Honestly if I wasn't willing to divulge how I was able to determine the failure rate. I am plainly not likely to divulge my favorite methods for tracking console usage. Needless to say however there are many with obvious pluses and minuses. That said I am disheartened to find that I should be asked how to do this on this site.
When I first came to this community it was just routine to see users rigging up their own statistical models. Using multiple data sources. Some used Xfire, or Nielson data. Personally I prefer to crunch the data myself. I am a firm believer in observation effecting the outcome. When someone is aware their usage is being monitored they tend to change their behavior. So I prefer to use data sources which are obscure. However if you just want a link to use here is one. I wouldn't recommend the source mind you, but you wanted a source.

Why hasn't this been getting updated? has Seece realized that the 360 is not going to beat the ps3 this year and given up on it?

He mentioned earlier in the thread that he'll update fortnightly. Although I have to agree, after the recent adjustments this is looking even more impossible than it was before, especially since we still appear to be undertracking PS3 in the Americas. We have it down YOY despite NPD showing it being up YOY by 20%.
