Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 Vs. Playstation 3 2012 - *February* Update

No point starting what won't end. 5/6 years ago PS3 was considered to trump the competition into the ground, a year into launch, doom began to spill after it was realized that it won't have the 1:1 attach ratio with everyone in the world within the first year. 360 was meant to fail from the start seeing as it had nothing but the original Xbox to ride off - which didn't do too splendid in the short time it was on the market, same was Wii. In all cases analysts and the general consensus was wrong.

I'd continue on this conversation, but it has been done countless times, I've mentioned it due to the offhand comment that Mein decided to drop - like he usually does when someone mentions something that resembles negativity towards his favourite console, so no point hitting the keys in asperation every time someone demands some sort of proof or is just in denial.

Congratulations to PS3.

/endthread... for me.

Not typing that all again because of the crappy forum integration with standard web browsers. Suffice to say Pretty much everyone was of that opinion. That was the big suprise. My last post explained it more but cannot be arsed to say it again.

Sometimes when things were not meant to be said it won't be said.  Go figure.

Updated OP!

Still think we have a few interesting weeks left. 1st MS at CES what do they say? Do they contradict VGC? Then NPD. Then finally financial reports.

For the final week here is some additional breakdown. The areas known as unnamed or others are the areas where VGC says they dont have nearly as strong tracking.

PS3 360
USA             162,050             285,633
Unnamed Americas               31,249               45,444
UK, Germany, France             107,400             121,048
Unnamed Europe             175,466               70,901
Japan               64,978                  2,314
Other               81,536               25,547

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Very impressive for the 360 to come back and win the sales per capita race. But kudos to Sony as well for selling the most by volume.

Nice job by both companies.

Youve got to give credit to MS for surviving the Ps3 slim momentum, PsMove and the Ps3 price cut altogether. And now their YOY is larger than Ps3's.

Yay!!!

360 would have lead in all countries except Japan is only MS didn't charge for XBox Live, the very one point that leads gamers to choose PS3 over 360 (BRD is not such a strong factor, moreover piracy is harder on PS3 as I heard).
MS did a critical mistake on charging for XBox Live, even if the service is more secure...

It was so close. I cant say anyone won...

Yay!!!

Wait, What? Really now? If anything, its Sony who was able to survive the X360's momentum with the Slim, Kinect, massive $100 giftcards, numerous bundles and a $500M (2010) and $500M+  (2011) advertising budget.

If anything. Xbox was able to survive the onslaught of the Playstation brand from its domination of the 5th and 6th gen.

Yay!!!
