Forums - Sales - FIFA 12 third biggest UK launch ever, Sold more than GTA IV

Eurogamer

EA's gargantuan FIFA 12 sales make it the third biggest UK video game launch ever.

FIFA 12 ousts previous third-place holder Grand Theft Auto IV. In their release weeks, only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops sold more.

This year FIFA 12 sold 18 per cent more during its launch period than FIFA 11, which translates into 34 per cent more revenue.

Software sales were dominated by Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Microsoft's machine had the edge with 54 per cent of FIFA 12 units sold. Sony's system counted for 44 per cent.

Both platforms saw huge boosts in their share of FIFA copies from last year, when just 27 per cent of players chose Xbox 360 for FIFA 11, while 33 per cent picked PlayStation 3.

Sales of FIFA 12 on other formats (PC, 3DS, DS, PSP and Wii) counted for just two per cent of the total, according to Chart-Track, although PC download sales aren't counted.

Sports game mostly do better on PS3 + exclusive advertising for PS3 (at least in Germany, I imagine it's the same for UK)

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Do you mean UK or Europe?  In UK 360 has larger install base and therefore mostly gets a higher percentage of sales, although sports title's can be closer to 50/50 as seen here.  Normally across the rest of Europe the sales skew heavier to PS3 with an overall result in EMEAA that often favours PS3 for sports titles.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

combined numbers should be huge, ps3 version in eu will be massive

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

looks like ps3 will get another good boost out of this.

Its advertised almost as a sony exclusive in the UK... with one hell of a huge ad campaign that has been running for a month or so already.

Unsurprising sales for a game in a country where the sport in question is watched live (actually turning up to watch the game in person) by more people on a weekly basis than anywhere else in the world..... by some considerable margin

aren't the germans nr. 1 watching football games live? germanys football federation is the biggest sports federation of the world (for one sport) and the first league has more visitors than any other footbal league.

ahh found it:

it's huge in germany. even the smallest clubs have minimum 30k visitor per game in the first league.

There are four professional leagues in England and I will guarantee that more people watch them than watch any other countries league

you cant just off the top league.....

lol in germany they have more than the first league as well you know? you think i only thought about the first league? why should i say that the german football federation is the biggest of the world then?

sports games are definitely more popular on PS3. Pro evo will have a 2:1 ratio for PS3. the fact that 360 version sold over a half is amazing. I know several PS3 and 360 owners(i own both but game more on 360 more) and the majority of football fans get it on PS3 because they are casuals.
