Forums - Nintendo - When will Zelda Wii be announced?

I reckon E3 will reveal

Zelda
Pikmin 3
Animal Crossing
New IP we dont know the name of yet
More about Wii Music (this will be Dec Japan release)

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

As we all know, Miyamoto said that Twilight Princess would be "the last Zelda game of its kind". The fun part is speculating what he meant by that.

Will we have a change in the timelines? Will it be futuristic? Are they going to deviate from the current formula? Are they going to change it from a 3rd person 'RPG' into another genre?

Oh the possibilities that can come from such a general phrase about such a great franchise really is exhilarating!

Let us not forget that it has been in development for one year prior to the release of TP, so that must mean something by now. Even if they were just talking about conceptual drawings at that point, decisions have probably been made and it wouldn't be doubtful if they had something to show us this year. Maybe not at E3, but sometime during the later part of the year I suspect we'll see the new Zelda.

I also read that somewhere, but can't figure out where. But it does sound weird unless they had diffrent teams working on diffrent projects.

Predictions for December 31st 2008:
Wii 38,000,000
DS 84,500,000
PS3 17,000,000
PSP 41,000,000
X360 23,000,000

I would much prefer Nintendo to get off their asses and start making new IP's rather than re-hashing tired old ones... I mean the Wii already has a Zelda game! I can honestly see the Wii becoming like the GC library, riddled with numerous Mario and Zelda games and not much else worth noting... I hope that they decide to actually take a chance and make some new games.

Making new Mario and Zelda games all the time is a bit too safe imo, show us what you can do Nintendo, maybe even get me to buy a Wii :P

Twilight Princess pretty much scratched my Zelda itch. It's barely been a year since it was released. I want a true "Wii-only" Zelda experience as much as anyone, but I don't think Nintendo should be rushing out LOZ titles every couple of years. If they did, the series would lose some of it's mythical status. Zelda games aren't just games. They're events.

@Squall and d21lewis:

Every Nintendo system so far has had at least 2 Zeldas:

NES:
Zelda
Zelda 2

SNES:
Link to the Past
Link's Awakening

GB:
Link's Awakening
Link's Awakening DX

GBC:
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons (completely different games, even though they interact with each other)

GBA:
Link to the Past/Four Swords
Minish Cap

N64:
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask

Gamecube (3 games):
Wind Waker
Four Swords Adventures
Twilight Princess

All of those games are seen as classics, and none of them have taken away from its' 'mythical' status. So, looking at past trends, both the DS and the Wii will have at least one more Zelda game.

Link's awakening on SNES????

Link's Awakening on the Snes? No. Never came out for that system.

Majora's Mask for the N64? The most slept on game in the franchise. Probably released too soon.

Same goes for 4 Swords. I guess if you count off-shoots, the Wii has Twilight Princess and Link's Crossbow Training. The two games quota has been met.

what u mean announced it was already released: Link`s crossbow training is the zelda wii game ;)

I don't really count Twilight Princess as a Wii game.

And notice it's called Link's Crossbow Training and not Zelda: Links Crossbow Training. So in my eyes Wii dosn't have a proper Zelda yet.

@CB

In all likelyhood they had a seperate team work on the port of TP to the Wii while another team started development of a Wii Zelda. Afterall TP was identical to the GC version (only mirrored with some motion control added)

That is only my speculation, but I think it seems reasonable. I don't think they woul dneed a full team to work on the Wii version changes (pretty much just adding a flip matrix muliplication to the rendering pass and then code for the new input)

I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?
