Forums - Sales - Sony Iberia(Spain+Portugal): PSP=2.2M PS3=3M GT5=300k, price cut effect, ¿U3>GT5?...

When to begin the Christmas season, James Armstrong, senior vice president of southern Europe and CEO for Spain and Portugal of Sony Computer Entertainment, pauses to tell Vandal situation of your company in Spain and its future prospects .

PlayStation 3 takes a while in the Spanish market, what is the current status of the console?, Do you trust to achieve results as spectacular as the PS2?, Is it the best selling console of this generation?

I think we're going down that road. The difference between PS3 and PS2 PS2 is that in the sixth year of life, as we are now with PS3, we are at 249 €, with PS2 we were at 149 €. This will away business, because what is clear is that a machine, the cheaper the more you can sell. But it also tells us that PS3 have many possibilities. Now just lower the price of 299 € to 249 €, we will increase sales by about 15 percent over the previous year and we are at a price of 249 €. If we are competitive compared to a much higher price and sell more than the competition. When compared to Xbox sell almost three times more than it sells Xbox, Wii when compared to sell nearly 30 percent of what they sell, and sell our product at a higher price. We have an opportunity to continue to decline in future years the price provided that the costs of the components allows us to make and sell the PS3 at a profit.

...

How many PSP consoles were sold in Spain?

We are around 2.1 or 2.2 million machines, and PS3 have surpassed the three million machines. There are many machines sold.

Do you think critically acclaimed games like Uncharted 3 can reach sales in Spain similar to Gran Turismo 5?

I think we will be very close. Gran Turismo 5 have sold to date around 280,000 games, almost 300,000. And Uncharted six months after launch we will reach 275,000.

What?

nice numbers for spain

That would be truly impressive if U3 manages to outsell GT5 there. Going by VGC numbers if they expect PS3 to be up by 15% than that would mean just under 700k sales in Iberia for the year. Although it would appear that we're pretty significantly undertracking PS3 there, and sadly overtracking PSP.

"When compared to Xbox sell almost three times more than it sells Xbox" Looking at this quote I'm starting to think we'll be seeing some very surprising numbers from Nintendo's European charts come October.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

They could be mixed up.

PS3 could be around 2.1/2.2, PSP over 3 Million...

I doubt we're undertracking PS3 by that much there, really.

One of the main stakes in the last year Sony PS3 Move has been, how it worked over in Spain?

Spain is the world's countries that has worked best. I would say the only country that has worked better than in Spain and perhaps Portugal ... in Germany. It has worked well, we are selling more than Move is selling Kinecta and are very pleased with the outcome.

xD

Pedro Almeida, Sony CE Portugal Country Manager has given an interview to a portuguese magazine named Smash in April 2010, saying PS3 has sold ( most probably shipped) ~250 000 in Portugal. If the 3 million is only for Spain that means VGC has PS3 undertracked by a more than a miliion.

Portugal March 2010

PS3 250k
PSP 500k
PS2 1 million

Iberia= Portugal+Spain

Even if they mixed up, PS3 is still undertracked. Portugal numbers are missing. Read my previous post, Portugal had 250k by March 2010.

But my point is that as far as I know Sony's shipped PS3's are not very much more than Vgchartz sold numbers for the PS3 are. So if it is indeed undertracked in Iberia than it is probably overtracked elsewhere.
