Expecting Sega to mention the game again right now would be stupid, but a few years ago it was selling really well weekly (according to VGC) and it's really strange that Sega said nothing at all especially when it sold 33k first month in the US...and just decided to put the series on the PSP, totally ignoring the PS3.

For the record I don't think VC is the only RPG overtracked here. Just selling 1 mil makes it highly suspect compared to the others. I know the game sold well but 1 mil is ridiculous, sorry.

doesn't that fit the bill exactly to what you meant?  Few years ago it had a surge and they mentioned it.

And yeah they moved the series to PSP, but that doesn't necessitate that the game sold poorly.  Series get moved to different platforms for all kinds of reasons.

My first PS3 game, I bought it even before I even bought the console.
Extremely well deserved.

Yes and no. In that article they say the game has reached "tens of thousands of brand new homes,". This is still a huge far cry from the 650k VGC has for the Americas, even if we're saying from then up till now. Yes the game had a surge...but not one that made it sell several hundred thousand copies extra. That's just too hard to swallow.

that was tens of thousands in a month, and since then it has been 2 years.  I think you're really underestimating how long a game can sell little bits.  You don't think that after selling tens of thousands in a month it shot down to nothing do you?  The only evidence I've seen to the contrary is that Sega hasn't mentioned it which is neither here nor there since I haven't seen any mention of them for old games in the financial reports I've read through, and that supposed leak from NPD which was proven wrong on a similar title before when Atlus put out shipment numbers for Demon's Souls.  So for now I'll just go with VGC's numbers until I see some actual credible reason not to.

I'm so happy, I'm crying!

I'm surprised Carl2291 didn't make this thread.

Of course it didn't just drop to 0. That's too extreme. Selling several hundred thousand copies extra is the other extreme though. VC isn't the type of game that would just suddenly explode in sales. Sega commented when the game sold some tens of thousands of sales. If the game was consistently selling hundreds of thousands of copies, I think Sega would've said something again. Doesn't even have to be a financial report. Btw, what NPD leak are you talking about?

You can believe whatever you want anyway.

That seems again like an assumption, they mentioned that jump in sales to advertise the decreased price and the anime.  Just because they mention a month where they had 10s of thousands of sales doesn't mean they're going to mention a perioud of 2 years where they got 150-200,000 over a much longer time period, that can be achieved in 2 years without ever selling 10,000 in another month.

You're making assumptions of what Sega definitely would tell people if it happened, if that's the only evidence along with your gut feeling then I really see no reason to go with that over actual sales data regardless of it's track record.  I'd go with Brett a thousand times before I went with what someone "feels" something sold.

NPD leak is that guy from neogaf Jarred would always bring up who had the VC numbers from NPD supposedly.

Really, we're both just going off a lack of evidence to believe whatever side of the argument we want to believe.

It's not just a feeling though. Since when do RPGs sell little in a month then explode to 650k? Even if the game suddenly started selling well, 650k doesn't sound reasonable to me at all.

As for the NPD leak, are you talking about the 33k I mentioned? Because VGC literally has almost the same exact numbers...so either they're both right, or they're both wrong. And if they're both wrong then...yeah. What can I say about the total sales VGC has for VC then?

When do RPG's have a huge second push with a "best of" release, get listed constantly in top ten's for their console, and get an anime?  Valkyria Chronicles doing something most RPG's don't doesn't shock me in the slightest.

33k isn't a leak, that's the sales they specifically released.  No I'm talking about a guy who said he could leak VC's totals as well as other games after years to see how they ended up doing in total and not just their first month.  Jarred would often quote his leaks as proof that Demon's Souls and VC did not do nearly as well as VGC claimed.  Was proven wrong for Demon's Souls so I do not take it as evidence for VC.

Congrats sega. Too bad another VC game will ever break a million. Sega will make sure of that. :P

The "Best" release and the anime are Japan only so I don't take that as evidence for America sales. Where was it listed consantly in the top 10 for PS3? Here or NPD? Either way 650k is still too much. I mean I don't deny the game sold well at all - there's a VC2 and VC3 now after all as well as the anime (though VC3 and the anime are only for Japan...) - but 650k in Americas is reaching.

The "best" release I'll give you but you can't really think that the anime only being in Japan stopped anyone that was likely to buy the game?  Hell if that were true I wouldn't have seen nearly as much anime as I have.  The "Top Ten" thing was about quality not sales, just evidence that assuming Valkyria will follow the same pattern as most other rpg's is unfounded.

YOu can call it reaching all you want, but without actual evidence I can only think of you as a "hater".

Awesome sales for arguably the best game on the PS3. Quality & word-of-mouth really helped this game.

Same for Demon's Souls.
