I'm gonna say it: Crono and Serge from Square Enix's Chrono franchise. Just think, it could generate interest in both of the games in Chrono canon, and maybe inspire a redux of Cross for the 3DS, if nothing else. Aw, who am I kidding? I WANT A MOTHERFUCKING SEQUEL DAMMIT!!!

I don't think the characters from Grand Theft Auto would work for something as whimsical as Smash Bros. Dante could work, unless you're talking about the Gothed-out Dante from the new one. OK, maybe he would be alright that way, as long as we got the option to play as Classic Dante. Although to be honest the main thing that put me off about the original DMC games was that all the male leads looked EXACTLY THE SAME with only subtle differences in appearance.

As for characters I'd prefer to never see again without considerable amounts of buffing/nerfing: Pokemon Trainer and his weak sauce team (replace his team), Yoshi (buff him), Ganondorf (buff him; seriously, he's supposed to be this uber bad guy and you're giving him this fail sauce interpretation, GIVE. HIM. HIS. SWORD!), King Dedede (NERF HIM NOW PLEASE! someone that heavy shouldn't be so hard to Meteor), and Mr. Game and Watch (buff him, he's the character that jump-started your company's video game business; give him a fighting chance!)

As for new Nintendo characters I would love to play as: Baby Bros. (as in Baby Mario/Luigi in an Ice Climbers style tandem), Vaati/Zant (or any other character that was used as a tool by Ganondorf), a nerfed and shrunk version of Ridley, Bowser Jr. and the rest of the Koopalings, King K. Rool, and Gigalith (whether Pokemon Trainer comes out with a 5th generation team or not; Gigalith is a very popular Pokemon whose popularity is only surpassed among its generation by Serperior, which I hope will be on the Trainer's new team, if they decide to go that route).

As I previously mentioned, the only 3rd party characters I can think of that I would want to see as playable characters are Crono and Serge from the Chrono series owned by Square Enix.

If Kirby looks like that ingame, the world's gonna explode from awesomeness.
