Forums - Gaming - Pachter: Call of Duty Bigger Than Grand Theft Auto

I don't care, both are overrated IMO

Why should we give a fuck?

Biggest mainstream franchises? Really?

Mario Kart Wii (28.31 millions sold) says hello!

Mario Kart Wii released April 2008.

3 and a half years ago.

In that time COD has sold over 64 million units.

and if mario kart released 3 games with minor updates it would do the same, u cant compare a game with 1 release to multiple releases

That's pure speculation.

Regardless, he pointed to Mario Kart as being bigger than COD. This generation, it's not.

It is bigger than GTA though, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes you can. Nintendo is taking a different approach to its franchises. Activisons bleeds them dry and then moves on, Nintendo just keeps using them again and again, just not too frequently

And yeah, it is kind of obvious the CoD is the biggest, FIFA is probably the 2nd biggest at the moment, and while the latter will keep selling for ever (unless it is replaced by PES), I do feel that CoD will fall before next gen

If COD is the biggest franchise of this gen, then unfortunately this gen sucked so much!!!

Probably not, as Mario Kart Wii's sales would have slowedva whole lot when MK7 would have released. Then MK8 would have slowed 7. Etc. Call of Duty sells 20 Million Yearly. No other game on consoles or PC does this.

This news is very interesting to read

It's an apples and oranges thing due to CoD's dedicated regular release schedule. It's hard to judge overall appeal when one franchise works on a yearly basis and others do not

Though one could argue that since CoD yearly sales match what GTA performs as part of a rough four-year cycle, that it is indeed the bigger franchise since it can sustain those numbers more regularly, though GTA cannot prove that it cannot sustain those numbers either

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I actually disagree- I feel that GTA5 will be bigger than any CoD game so far in terms of sales.

Here's rare footage of Activision feeding on a franchise until there is nothing left.  Be warned, it's quite graphic:

And with yet another franchise totally sucked dry of its profitability, Activision moves towards its next victim.......
