Apparently Coca Cola has come out with a new brand of diet soft drink; what will Carlsberg do to defend themselves against Coca Cola?

Camera's still exist despite built-in camera's in mobile phones.

Phones are handheld computers. Computers and console gaming are completely different
So handheld and Phones are also different?

Proof?

The best selling Phone games is Angry Birds
The Best selling handheld game is Mario bros

You can never put Mario bros on a phone and sell well
But you can put Angry Birds on the ds it just won't sell

Advice? Make quality games worth $30 Nintendo and Apple can't touch you

The day Coca Cola enter the business of alcoholic beverages is the day beer breweries around the world simultaneously cry out in terror and are suddenly silenced

Apologies to the non Australians here (and if anyone has lived in Australia and overseas could you translate for me), but

Coca Cola = Apple (the popular company that is/could enter the industry)

Tooheys/Fosters/VB =  Ubisoft (low quality entertainment for the masses)

James Squire = Nintendo, MS, Sony. (high quality entertainment for the masses)

Tooheys has a lot to fear from Coca Cola entering the industry, but James Squire does not. Ubisoft has a lot to fear from Apple, but Nintendo does not. Iphone games can match ubisoft games in terms of quality, but they cannot match Nintendo/Sony/MS.

Phones will not kill off consoles/handhelds in the next 15+ years, because sales are related to games, not to hardware/price.

The ability to make threads needs to be taken away from you.

Huh I seem to have the exact same opinion about you Rol. But you see I write threads people like and gets people thinking and so do you. Just because my threads have different views then yours and neither of us can agree doesn't mean either of us should be prevented from posting. What good is a forum if its only full of people that agree with each other?

You know, Nintendo going on the offensive is what leads to decline every single time for them. Sega launches the Megadrive/Genesis and Nintendo decides to go on the offensive and fight over the same market. Nintendo's console sales decline. Then Sony enters and Nintendo decides to go after them too for two generations and Nintendo declines even further. Then with the Wii Nintendo realizes that they don't have to fight over the same market as Sony and Microsoft, because there are so many more people out there. Nintendo becomes more successful than ever, but then the old ways start to kick in again. Now they plan to launch the Wii U to fight with Sony and Microsoft over the same part of the market and it really isn't hard to foresee a major decline for Nintendo's business.

Rol you crack me up, SNES was not Nintendo going on the offensive against Genesis. Nintendo's consoles were a lot like Sega's and at the time the room for improvement was limited. Power Glove etc...etc.. are a perfect example of Nintendo trying to expand through innovation rather then competition. Look at what happened to Sega who constantly did what you are suggesting? They constantly tried to evolve the industry they would come out with new ground breaking tech, but guess what they got crushed. In fact it was Nintendo's failure to assault Sega resulted in PSOne, if Nintendo had gone through with the plan to launch SNES:CD Sony would have made games for it. If Sony never entered the industry and instead made games for Nintendo's platforms would the industry be what it is today?

You have limited your thinking, companies can be successful in both expanding market share and stealing it. Both strategies work as we can see clearly with PSOne and PS2 who really offered nothing new, Sony went after the competition and dealt a deadly blow. Nintendo Wii proves your idealogy that through innovation and market expansion a company can also be successful. However if Nintendo doesn't do both they will run into the same problems Sega did. You can't just innovate you need to go on the offensive. But you can't just go on the offensive either because if a competitor changes their strategy your playing catch up. PS3 being the perfect example, Sony went on the offensive against X-Box and GameCube expecting Nintendo and Microsoft to use power to fight the console war. However Nintendo turned Sony on its head by taking a drastically different approach.

Thankfully Nintendo didn't go on the offensive when Sega launched the Game Gear. Even the GBC was less powerful than the by then dead Game Gear. No notable competition entered during the GBA days, so Nintendo sticked to their guns. Then Sony entered the handheld market and Nintendo surprisingly decided against going on the offensive. The result was the DS, the most successful handheld of all time. Unfortunately, with the 3DS Nintendo has once again caught the disease of fighting over the same market with someone else, in this case Sony. Pretty much everything about the 3DS is an attempt to steal Sony's PSP userbase and the result is going to be that Nintendo declines.

Of course Nintendo didn't go on the offensive when Sega launched GameGear. GameGear sold just over 10-million units in its lifetime. Also how do you figure Nintendo didn't go on the offensive against PSP? Isn't it funny that for three hardware generation's Nintendo's consoles were all handheld versions of home consoles. But suddenly when Sony announces they are entering the handheld market Nintendo throws a curve ball and for the first time in handheld history creates a completely unique experiance. Nintendo knew Sony was coming and they knew Sony would put up a fight, this caused them to take drastic measures to grow the market. You don't honestly believe Nintendo taking handhelds in a whole new direction had nothing to do with Sony entering the market do you? Yes DS tech had been in development for years and was actually considered along time ago. But you know what Nintendo has a ton of tech always under development and it doesn't all materialize into products. Nintendo's choice to innovate and change their handheld so that it offered a unique experiance to PSP was most definatly Nintendo going on the offensive.

3DS was developed by Nintendo to defend its market share, What you are suggesting! It was created in the hopes that Nintendo would see the same success they saw with DS. 3D was intended to give the console a lift up and was the only feature added that even hints Nintendo was going on the offensive against Sony.

Also ding ding ding, your being hypocritical about this whole not going on the offensive thing. In my thread about Nintendo ignoring the west in favor of Japanese games. You specifically said that Nintendo needed to have Monster Hunter because it was the biggest game on PSP. You stated " Nintendo must ensure 3DS dominance in Japan." by "Monster Hunter did much more for the PSP than GTA, so despite similar sales of Capcom and Rockstar games on the PSP, Capcom was multiple times more important for Sony in the end. This is the important point you simply aren't able to grasp up until now.".Infact Rol you stated in multiple threads that Nintendo should be paying for Monster Hunter exclusivity so that they can take out Sony in Japan.

How is it smart for Nintendo to go on the offensive against Sony, but foolish to go on the offensive against Apple?

And now you ask how can Nintendo go on the offensive against Apple. Why not just say straight up that you want to see Nintendo going out of business?

Your the one who keeps suggesting Nintendo is going to go out of business. 3DS is going to bomb, WiiU is a dumb idea. Nintendo has lacked quality software. Infact you come up with every reason you can to create threads that critisize Nintendo. You used to be a Nintendo fan, now your really against it. You have your own opinions about subjects. Like the NewSuperMarioBros:3DS threads, I mean you bring the lack of that single title up in almost every 3DS thread. As if that single title would change the tide of 3DS, no MarioKart isn't good enough Nintendo needs to use every single big title they have year one. Whats Nintendo going to release over the next five years if they use all of their big titles now?

The first question that needs to be answered is: "How can this threaten Nintendo?"

Umm you obviously haven't read my posts or RainBirds I suggest you glance over them.I don't think anyone wants me to create another paragraph or two in this post. So go give them a read and then give an educated response as to how you figure smart phones aren't a threat to Nintendo's software market share which in turn has a direct effect on hardware market share.

So how can Apple become a threat to Nintendo? They don't even have a first party. Why should Nintendo fight a ghost? Why should I read the original post when its premise is so blatantly flawed? Why are you still allowed to make threads? And why do I sound so angry?

Because I am.

lol, why are you angry? Seriously getting so upset over something as trivial as another gamer thinking differently then you is stupid. I'm not mad at you, though I am growing annoyed with a lot of your threads and replies. However I read them all and I understand where your coming from.

But seriously, you said something totally different just days ago. You said Nintendo should go on the offensive against PSP starting with MH and taking Japan. Then in this reply you specifically mention Nintendo attack on Sony via 3DS to be a bad thing.

Sometimes I get the impression that you just like to disagree with me! No matter what threads I create or how much research and effort I put into them. You always get upset. Seriously calling for me not to be able to create threads anymore lol.

Then again I don't know whether to take this seriously. You do sarcastic posts and threads all the time and sometimes I think their legit.

Sorry Joelcool7, but at least based on recent threads, I'm gonna have to go with Rol on this one. Sometimes less is more.

Huh I have always consistantly posted about the same amount of threads. I did not notice the quality going down. What are some of the recent threads you are refering to and why don't you like them? I would love constructive critisism, of course when I say constructive I'm not talking insults I mean actual input on what you like and dislike about my threads. Then I can attempt to improve them in the future!

@joecool im sorry but im gonna have to roll with Rol on this one. Wii was not an offensive against Sony or MS, dont know where your getting that from. They stated more than once they were going after a different audience and they did get a different audience, look at the games that sell on Wii, look at the ones that sell on HDs. DS was the same damn thing, they wanted to capture a different audience, now with the 3DS you can say that they are trying to capture the PSP portable game console crowd. While i dont agree with Rol that they needed a 2d mario game day 1(dont know the obsession with that is, just play one of the dozens of ones that have been released) i will agree that it has not worked. No one really cares about the 3D and they have had to drop the price already. Look at the ads, there is much more focus on console series games.

IMHO its not about offensive, its about image, Ninty is the family friendly console, thats what they are and when they try to fight that and run with the edgy crowd, they fail. N64 tried it, it didnt work, they sorta tried with GC didnt work. There trying again with 3DS, its working better, but not as much as they liked
