Forums - PC - Anybody try out the Windows 8 Developer preview?

I downloaded and installed it on a partition yesterday. If I had a touchscreen or a tablet it would be pretty cool, but I can't help thinking what's the point in using this operating system as a desktop power user for video games and professional work instead of casual tablet stuff?

You can find the developer preview below,

I am currently running the Dev preview in a VirtualBox VM at work. Have not had a great deal of time to play with it, but I should today.

yes... and I'm annoyed with it... completly useless for a workstation... don't know when to scroll or to drag.. Metro is fine for a tablet or touchscreen but who owns a touchscreen monitor? I'm not scrolling 3 pages to the right just to find the program I need.. sure it looks cool but when you have to work with it, it so time consuming.. it's like those horrible interfaces companies pour over vanilla Android..

I have seen this all over the place. Is it just another think like microsoft xp? or is this a new tablet that is out? if that is the case I am dying to get one. Probably a galaxy 2 or iphone2 though.

It's a brand new Windows operating system, like XP, Vista or 7. The big thing about Windows 8 is that they're pushing it for tablets too.

For tablets this interface seems slick, but as a desktop user who does gaming, graphic design and video editing, I don't see a use for this. Hopefully things get fleshed out as time goes on because I'm not a fan of using this on a non tablet/touchscreen system.

Its made for Tablets and mobile devices and touch screen desktops but for regular desktop use, Windows 7 is still and will be the OS to use until 2015 when windows 9 is released.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Not really... I would, but from the previews there's nothing thats really better than win7 for a dasktop/laptop user (me). Therefore, there's no point. Plus, I love me some win7.

Exactly - the metro UI is not very efficient without a touchscreen monitor.  I can understand their strategy however, by implementing it as standard across their range of products i.e. the tile theme used on windows phones/tablets/desktops they are creating a 'familiarity' that they feel will improve the ease of use for the less tech savvy market.  At least that's what I make of it.

It is faster in almost every way than Windows 7, seriously, it's pretty cool. But man is the interface SUCH a piece of shit that I don't even know where to begin how shitty it is.
