I'm not sure how it works in the States, but, here in Canada, our Tuesdays are (nearly) half price movie tickets. So, I found it a bit weird Spider-Man opened on a Tuesday.

I think it will be two more weeks before The Avengers will hit any dollar theaters it still almost ended up in the top ten over the weekend.

The two most recent movies showing in my nearest discount theater (North Richland Hills, Texas) are The Dictator and Dark Shadow they bound to get something new next week since Pirates! Band of Misfits is playing on two screens for some strange reason.

Sony is not doing so good lately on the movies. MIB 3 did not do as well as they hoped. Thats my boy is a flop. And now Amazing spider man is somewhat doing worse than they expected.

No. Sony's forcast for The Amazing Spiderman were in the range of $100-120 Million dollars first week-weekend, domestically. Sometime during the weekend they upped the forcast to $120-140 Million dollars which turned out to be correct. Just because The Avengers made massive amounts of money doesn't make every other movie that doesn't beat it small.

MIB3 could have made alot more money but it will do more than break even. If that's a flop then what is Waterworld?

It has already made a decent profit. Just like ever Will Smith movie.

At Farsala:MiB 3 did over 600 m worldwide and now you consider it a flop. Hey what did you smoke? They alreade made ahuge profit with MIB 3 and there will be the DVD/Blue Ray sales as well as tv rights.
When is a movie a success in your opinion? When it sell one billion.

And on the other side US is not world. Even if a movie dont sell as much as previous entrys in the us that that doesnt automatically mean its a failure.

Did not say MIB3 was a flop. Just saying MIB 90M budget while MIB 3 210M budget and both made about the same and MIB was 15 years ago.

At farsale: Now i got what you mean. Sorry for the missunderstanding. But again Sony would be stupid to estimate 900 M or something for men in Black 3. I think the 600m worldwide is far more than Sony is expecting.

1. Will Smiths movies grosses about 500-650 M so any higher prediction would be insane.
2. The MIB Series both did not gross 600 M so why should a series the last entry is more than 5 years old grow about 100-200 M?
3. for the production cost- wouldnt that be the case for most of the movies releasing today?

I personally expectet 550 -650 M for MIB 3 and i even think that Sonys analyser knowing what they doing ( atleast in the cinema sektor)
