Right now forecast for Star Wars is $231 million in the US opening weekend. That would break Jurassic World's record. I would also point out how many schools will be letting out for holiday break next week could see it have an amazing second weekend too.

Augen, I get the impression either some people are not aware of just how big this movie is going to be or they are not fans of the series and are therefore downplaying other's hype for it because they aren't hyped for it.

I don't know how in the US anyone could miss the marketing. My local grocery store has at least a dozen products with Star Wars characters slapped on them.  It is everywhere in general public, not just corners of fandom.

I know it will do gangbusters in the US, main interest is how it does in growing foriegn markets.

Star Wars made $57 million on Thursday evening on its preview screenings. It definitely will break the single day record held by HP: Deadly Hollows Part 2, that movie started strong but had no legs considering how it started it should have easily made over $400 million domestically. Plus its going to break all the records that Jurassic World set this summer.

Right now its the most marketed movie out there, like you said just in grocery items its on at least a dozen different products.  Also a franchise Star Wars has to be at the top when it comes to merchandising.

Star wars made $40.1 million on monday, breaking Spider-Man 2's $27.7 million record set in 2004.

Proud to be a Californian.

Does anyone still believe that Avatar and Titanic's records are not in jeopardy?

Yet there are people still believing nothing will top those 2 movies, it will someday or likely Star Wars will have a shot at this.

You never know, it could be an $800 Million domestic!?!

But, everyone thought that about other movies and they were white hot for 2-3 weeks and just ran out of gas.

My guess is it will hit $750 million+

It is near the end of the end....

Domestically or worldwide? Adjusted or unadjusted?

Domestically it will 100% beat Avatar's gross, adjusted and unadjusted. It remains to be seen if it can reach Titanic's number...

Worldwide is the tricky part, as exchange rates are against The Force Awakens, but it still should beat Titanic's ww gross.

Prior to release many people in this thread were saying it didn't have a chance in hell of coming close to any of those.

Almost everyone, even most of the professional box-office analysts, doubted it could do these numbers. It's a one of a kind box-office run, we don't even have a clue how it will perform next week.

Actually, the analysts were predicting it to do exactly what it's doing.  Crush records.  I linked to several of them in this thread.  Some were even expecting $3 billion.

True, a lot of people expected it to crush the opening weekend record, but few expected it will continue to have these amazing holds during weekdays.

Avatar is currently the 3rd weekend record holder with $68,490,688.
Based on the numbers TFA is doing this weekend, next weekend it will beat that record by $30M, give or take.
