Even if it doesn't beat the record, both Jurassic World and Inside Out will be over $90M this weekend, which is amazing to say the least.

I find it weird that we aren;t talking about the long-standing record of over 10 years that's about to be decimated...Highest Opening Weekend NOT at #1.  Prior, it was The Day After Tomorrow with 68 million, but it's gonna be Inside Out with 20 million more than that!

Personally, I don't find it weird that 2nd place records aren't discussed. But I get your point .

It's true, Inside Out has performed exceptionally well this week-end, and if Pixar legs are anything to go by, it should easily finish as the highest grossing animation this year.

Anyone here familiar with the annual summer film blackout in China? How does it work? From what I understood, the blackout period(a month usually) bans the release of foreign films in China to lift up awareness and revenue of local films. But does it also mean that foreign films that were already released prior to the blackout will also be removed from the theatres or will they still continue being shown?

I don't think Jurassic World will outgross the first Avengers domestic even though it's tracking $25M ahead of it.

Also, looks like Fast and Furious 7 will end up being the highest grossing movie of the year.

I dunno, Jurassic World is at just under 1 billion after 10 days; even conservative estimates that say it's 2/3 of it's total is already spent say that it could match or even beat it.

And we have Star Whores out later this year.

Not sure which success is more surprising to me, Fast and Furious 7 or Jurassic World? I had concerns for both of these and they smashed all expectations.

Side note it is great to see Pixar with a strong opening, look forward to seeing it.

I just watched Inside Out, and it was brilliant.  Lacked a certain oomph due to the fact that the entire movie basically takes place over the course of two days and the 'conflict' was strictly internal. Still absolutely brilliant, though.  Pixar is ahead of the game (Even when at their worst they are better than most)

Jurassic World has just beaten Avengers' second weekend gross making it the fastest pic to earn 400m in just 10 days and the fastest pic to reach 1 billion(13 days). It is unlikely to beat Furious 7 internationally as that movie earned so much in China(390m which is larger than its domestic gross), but it will most likely outgross it in most if not all other international markets. However, it is 100% sure that it will be the highest grossing film domestically with only Star wars or even maybe the Hunger games having a chance to beat it.

It's very, very difficult to accurately predict if it can outgross the first Avengers or not, even after 10 days since its release. On paper, a movie with JW's audience would have better legs than a superhero movie, but both of them are box office anomalies, performing at a scale we're not used to, hence the lack of assurance given by its gross at this moment. All we can do is wait.

P.S: With actuals closing in, it would seem JW is actually at least $30M ahead of the first Avengers at the same point in time, shattering the second week-end record with $107M.

Where are you getting the 107 million second weekend figure?  I just checked Box Office Mojo and it said 102.

And 4 million difference is not 'shattering' anything :P
