Well even if it does end up slightly ahead of DM2 at the end of the day DM2 is still much more profitable since it cost a lot less to make $76 million versus $150 million.

I think if you also consider how successful Frozen's OST is then it might be more profitable than DM2. Frozen's OST is topping Billboard 100 and charts all over the world. The song "Let it go" also went viral in Youtube and is also topping charts around the world. Most of the songs in the OST are also charting high.

I doubt that just the soundtrack would make it more profitable then DM2 since not that many people buy soundtracks in the first place.  The only way that Frozen could be more profitable overall if it has a ton more merchandise then DM2.

It's number one on billboard beating lots of big artists(that's physical sales) and it's songs are also topping charts all over the world digitally. But yes, merchandise and bluray and dvd sales will determine who earns more.

Also as franchise DM is a lot bigger then Frozen the 3rd movie is already been aproved plus the Minion's will get their own movie next year.

Of course, that's a given. Frozen is only one film and will probably never have a sequel.

Disney animation don't make sequels, they make new original films instead, so it's not very relevant.

Frozen is the leading ticket seller for the weekend on Fandango.
Boxoffice.com is forcasting $11m for the weekend which will take the film $362m - only $6m behind DM2.

$400 is definitely possible.
In the foreign market, it will get to $600 if the Koreans continue to go crazy over the film.

Disney owns Pixar and they make tons of sequels plus Disney animation also makes tons of sequels but most of them go directly to video but not with their next movie Planes: Fire & Rescue is a sequel to Planes and will be released in theaters.

I meant the Walt Disney Animation Studios specifically, not the entire walt disney studios.

Well The Rescuers Down Under is part of their oficial theatrical canon and its a sequel to The Rescuers.

In 1990... The point is that Frozen won't get a sequel not because it won't make a bunch of money but because that isn't what that studio generally does. Just like they didn't make a sequel to Tangled or Aladdin or The Lion King.

The Lion King had 2 sequels(one was a prequel). They were both direct to dvd though. Disney releases sequels to their films but they release it direct to DVD or sometimes online or as short film like Tangled. Tangled got a mini film released in theatres as the intro short film before the main feature and also on TV which showed what happens after the events of the film.
