The Lion King had 2 sequels(one was a prequel). They were both direct to dvd though. Disney releases sequels to their films but they release it direct to DVD or sometimes online or as short film like Tangled. Tangled got a mini film released in theatres as the intro short film before the main feature and also on TV which showed what happens after the events of the film.
