Forums - Sales - Marvel vs. Capcom 3. WTH happened??

Capcom projected that this game would do 2 mil. It is currently sitting at 1.35 mil across both consoles. Needless to say they are way off of their target.  With UMvs.C3 coming in Nov, i dont see these sales going up.

WTH happened?? Mvs.C2 was released online to garner some attention, (its still selling) and their was alot of fanfare for 3 prior to it coming out. You guys should have seen the line to play this at Comic con last year. Was it the vusuals?? No they look great. Was it the roster? Maybe  People were upset that there was no Megaman but IMHO, theri is Zero and he is a lot more useful than blue. No Frank West, i thought he sucked in Tvs.C, but those are not omission s that i imagine would be a deal breaker for most.  Less character count?? So what?? Only a handful of the guys from Mvs.C2 was useful anyway. Servebot, 2 Wolverines, Roll?

Or was it the online?? Yeah, that has to be it. Less options than SSF4 which was a damn update to another game that came out years prior.  Horrible matchmaking. Come on, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has better matchmaking than this game and Tvs.C has far less people playing that. Their is no excuse for a company like Capcom to produce a online code like that in 2011, none.  Usually i would ask why the gaming community has larger ignored a good game, but in this case; as painful as it is for me ( i love fighters), i understand. Then to add injury to injury, Cap decides to forego all DLC plans and then release a superior version of the game less than a year later. Here an idea instead of wasting time with that, why not just fix the damn terrible netcode and maybe rebalance the game a bit, cause im sure thats more important than having damn Hawkeye and Ghost Rider in the game. Then to release the game in November, where its sure to be killed by AC Revelations, COD MW3, Uncharted 3, hell i wouldnt be surprised if Sonic outsells it

Simply fanbase for MvsC is slightly different and smaller than for classic 2D fighters. Also the genre as a whole is saturating (SFIV was first good fighter this gen, while now we have several great titles). Apart from next Soul Calibur I don't see any fightning game doing big numbers this gen.

PROUD MEMBER OF THE PSP RPG FAN CLUB

Well I'm sure they killed off all future sales of the game once they announced Ultimate, coupled with the fact that you won't be able to buy the dlc with the original MvC3...It just wouldn't make sense to plop down money for the original game. At least with SSF4 you could get the DLC to make it the Arcade Edition, but with this nothing...

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

Its a crap game thats why, just like Street Fighter 4.

I feel that the low sales is simply due to Capcom milking. Numerous of my friends and I knew there'll be another MvC3 so we all held back. And quite possible we still may hold back cause UMvC3 might not be the last either. This is what Capcom has done and ruined their fans; they make us question ourselves from buying their games.

The game shipped 2m just like Capcom projected and has probably upped that number since...

I was hyped but then they started announcing some pretty shitty characters from both Marvel and Capcom. It made me not want the game anymorre. I'm not even really excited for the Tekken/Street Fighter hybrids, either.

i thought it was selling quite well at 1.3m across the board but obviously i'm wrong

market saturation with SSFIV?
