Forums - Nintendo - Dolphin 3.0 Wii/Gamecube Emulator (7719 build) is awesome

The Wii U CPU and Wii CPU are based on the same tech. Like every new generation intel pc cpus are based on the same tech. But the Wii U CPU is much more powerful, before you can emulate this on a pc with proper speed we will have christmas 2024.

That some people even think a proper Wii U or even a XBox360 emulation would be possible in a near future is hilarious. Even modern games like Assassins Creed 3 don't run exceptionally better on PC than on XBox360. And people really think a emulation would be possible? The Wii U even has much more power than the XBox360.

no, not 2024, perhaps 2014 :) before it gets confusing, i am not talking about cycle-accurate emulation but hle which saves a lot of cycles. and as i said before if emulation of wiiu is possible this will not mean it will run at playable speed.

but how will it be possible to run wii-games then if the isa is different? because it most probably isn't which is of no surprise as it is still a ppc. yes, by now it is unconfirmed but time will tell us soon enough. and also, there are no "counterfacts" by now.

How can you run 10 years old games on a modern pc? because cpus are using the same architecture. But of course modern cpus are faster.

ehm, the question was rhetoric - i already knew the answer, aber danke z101 :)

As much as it isn't commercially available and not for use on the PC don't forget that the original xbox has a fairly decent emulator working right now on hardware which is fairly underpowered by todays PC standards. Talking about how the 360 plays original Xbox games ofc, Those are all emulated.

I've spent enough money on games to emulate two generation old games that aren't being produced anymore.

I hope for your sake that you don't enter a quote wall debate about copyright infringement, intellectual property, and the limited licencing rights granted to legitimate recipients of media, because you may find yourself overwhelmed by new and confusing realisations.

Oh ok sure Mr.Wise-Man.

I think he just means that nintendo still try and sell NES and SNES games on their eshop so it's not like Ninty'd be fine with the argument that they're old games. I'm not saying your wrong at all, but that's why they are still minding their old software.

they are! what can be seen that not 100% of the old xbox-games can be played - only a few and these have also some issues. and this is why i highly doubt wiiu emulates wii.

I hear you.

I'm not too concerned with what people say about it, but there are times when I reason something out for myself.

In this case, I don't care about technical, legal arguments. Tell me how many people paid for every song on their iTunes!? I don't care what he says - I've paid my dues to the videogame industry. If I want to emulate 10 year old stuff I bought back in the day then I will.

Sometimes people like getting their panties in a twist over small things.

it's about 50% of the library of the original xbox which uses very different hardware from the 360.

aye kinda know what you mean, I have quite a large number of DS games which I've played on flashcard but at the same time when the DS came out up til where flashcards came out I bought maybe 30+ DS games far greater than the average attach rate of the console + it was at the beginning when it helped them get the ball rolling... in my eyes :D Either way mate those people who get their panties in a twist, it's only funny for us to watch them try and walk in them :D

Can this play all wii games?

Sort of. As with all emulators, there's some compatibility issues as they optimize the code.

The games I've played (Last Story, Twilight Princess, Xenoblade, Mario Galaxy 1+2, Skyward Sword, Rayman Origins) all work great.

However the main limiting factor is that you need a very good CPU to play most of the games all prettied up and sometimes at all. Generally a 4GHZ+ cpu is is needed to play Twilight Princess or Hyrule Field runs like crap. You also have to do various tweaking for different games.

There are some games that will play on much lesser hardware as they utilize much less of the wii's potential. However, to even approach "all" wii games you need a 4GHZ cpu. This is free, so obviously if you already own the games there's no harm in trying.

And, I'm not sure if you asked this.  The wii-u is way more powerful than the wii, and obviously if the wii is able to just be played on current PC hardware. The wii-u is definetely a ways away even if it uses the same architecture.
