That's a big jump... wonder why it surged so high. Wasn't the PS3 extremely overpriced in Australia before?

Before the cut it was $499 AUD, the official price cut was to $349 AUD but stores took another 50 dollars of so its been selling for 299 dollars, basically a $200 AUD cut.

That's a massive cut. Pretty close to fire sales.

Most places were selling it below RRP. I got mine for $298.00 at Big W. Harvey Norman also had it at 299.00. JB had it at 359 but bundled with AC2 and some other good game. So great value going all round.

Well no wonder it did so well then, that's a 40% price cut

Yeah the PS3 went from $499 for the 160GB version to $349, so much much cheaper. The Australian dollar has been over parity with the US dollar for a while now, so I guess Sony used the opportunity to re-align the price better with the US. Still getting ripped off though, works out to be the equivalent of $US370, but that applies with everything in Australia, not just PS3's.

We get ripped off in Europe too, if it makes you feel better.

Everything is $1=€1, so we pay $US360 (€250).

It's funny when Americans complain that their games are $US60 when we pay €75, which is $US108.

?? Damn that is a huge difference in Europe.. in the netherlands new PS3  games are 50 to 60 euro's... get them from the UK and you pay 40 to 50 euro's for the new games..  I think zavvi.com has a spanish site: zavvi.es you can pay with creditcard or paypal

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

The official sony store is selling 160gb ps3 for $272.30AU.. amazing just amazing! Fresh blood just in time to for mw3 and battlefield 3

Getting ripped off in South Africa too.

Isn't it ironic that the richer country has things for cheaper.

You have to compensate for the piracy :)

So PS3 above 200,000 this week.

Although I'm not too sure that VGC really has first hand information for those sales, I heard someone say that they apply some algorith to UK sales to extrapolste to EMEAA, and that's why imprecisions happen the most here.

Really? I'd be surprised if they got no Mainland Europe sales data. I imagine they get direct sales data from Aussie too. Wouldn;t be surprised if they used an Aussie based algorithm for NZ though.

$440 is about the cheapest I've seen it here in NZ. Can't remember the price 2 weeks ago, but for sure it was more than $500.

$440NZD=$349AUD=$373USD. Of course the Aussie and NZ prices include sales taxes. The US $249 doesn't include sales tax. So the US till price must be close to $300.

No one's doing less than RRP deals, though perhaps $440 is a <RRP deal because some retailers have it for $480.

Why do people always convert it to USD, Sony bases it on Yen becasue thats what their currentcy is.

Yes, you're right. I always buy them online. I never pay those prices for games.

I meant retail. They're usually €69 if the game is meh and €70+ if the game is good. And many people just buy them at retail so...

But they're still cheaper in the Netherlands...
