Lol haters gonna hate, disolitude (despite being anti Sony) generally has good points which is why I remain skeptical, but if the 3D is in fact good I could see myself getting it and the price point seems ideal when you pay attention to specs. I would probably buy this when it hits around 600 (better than spending the money on a shitty ipad). If it somehow has Vita connectivity, this would be the ideal roadtrip device (or long bus rides as long as you're not near ghetto hoods).

These have been around for a while. People should try them to see what they feel like.  I tried this one about a year ago - http://www.vuzix.com/consumer/products_wrap310xl.html

Wasn't bad but it wasn't as cool as it seems. Res was too low and the screen clarity wasn't great. Sony one obviously improves on the res...but still 1280x720 is nothing to brag about at that size.

Vuzix have something like this which would compete with Sony's 3D headset - http://www.vuzix.com/consumer/products_wrap_1200.html

I like that design better but still to expensive at 499.

I'm sorry, but excuse me? Do you have any idea what your talking about...? 1, they are OLED, so it gives a superior picture to most LCD's. Also, how is that resolution nothing to brag about, do you know how resolution works? Its all about PIXEL DENSITY. As in, with this, your going to have the same amount of pixel's in a 0.7 inch screen that you do in say a 32 inch 720p TV. FYI, thats nothing short of mind bogglingly amazing. And currently top of the line as far as any commerical screen tech goes right now. You might want to get your facts straight. Sorry to be so forward, but if you don't know what your talking about, don't comment, as it only spreads misinformation.

And FYI, theres nothing like these for instance, on the market right now, they don't even close to compare to anything out. Also, the media, not to mention every major tech publication is clamoring over this Headset, stating it to be one of the most immersive, visually unbelievable experiences to have come out to the commercial public, to date.

I actually started a thread on this myself, with nothing short of a plethora of information, the lack of information is this thread seriously isn't close to doing it justice. Thats obvious considering the recognition and praise I'm getting for the device in my thread. So any of you non-believers out there might want to take a gander at my thread, as you might, and probably will change your minds. This is, in essence, is the beginning of the future for entertainment IMO.

I'll definitely get it if it includes head tracking, otherwise well maybe I'll still get one.

It would be better if it was 1080p although I doubt next-gen games will do 1080p60 in 3D, since that's 9 times as many pixels as 720p30 in 2D. Still a shame that 3D blu-ray movies will be cut in half on those glasses :/

But the big advantage is you don't have to sit in the same position all the time staring at the tv. Playing something like Child of Eden in 3D while comfortably lying down would be awesome.

They do look interesting. Honestly if I can sit in a comfy gaming chair in the corner with a clean image and a good level of immersion without disturbing other people watching TV, that becomes priceless to me. For example playing SP games or playing online (KZ3 comes to mind). If I want to play with other people in the room that's what my TV is for (plan on getting about a 55 inch LED soon). Some people that have posted here just do so for the sake of trolling and do not pay attention at the target market of the product. You have the anti Sony and huge f......supporters of other consoles with the usual " but..but this kills the social aspect boo hoo" well duuuuuhhhh what the hell do you think it's for? For social aspect you have the TV, and this product is OBVIOUSLY meant for someone that wishes to be immersed in a game especially without causing a ruckus for those in the household ie, Deus Ex campaign with volume blasting and immersing yourself in the story, or choosing to just go online for KZ3. Again the hating is getting too old here, so if you're going to post add to the discussion, otherwise it becomes clear trolling based on post history. And thank you Disolitude for showing those links, definitely good alternatives to look at. BTW have you tried Deus Ex on the PC? And when compared to the first one, have you liked it so far? I personally have alot in about 4 hrs in that I am.

I havent had a chance to give Deus Ex a go yet...Street Fighter 3 online has consumed my gaming life since it came out. Something like Deus could work very well with these glasses.

Honestly, if they are able to implement head tracking with this, with 3D, and 1080p per eye resolution in the future...screw social gaming...this will be a total immersion package and only way to game. We will all be walking around our rooms blindly, knowcking shit over while playing Deus ex 4... :)

That is very true (about the head tracking). Dude if you get the chance play Deus Ex go for it. I will be the firs to admit that although I try my best not to be biased I do tend to support Sony (I know when to criticize as well), but I ended up getting the PC version and did not regret it at all. Amazon US had a deal for 35$ AND you got the preorder bonus (might still be up check it out). If you liked Bladerunner, this game has moments where it reminds you of that movie.

I am straying off topic there, but honestly I do think that Sony device deserves a chance (if the public's reviews hold up well) despite being 720p, depending on the refresh rate. Oh another thing yea SF 3: TS is probably my favorite one but I am a bit behind mastering it. Atm I am working on doing a full parry on Chun Li's super after I saw (100 times) the video of Daigo making the sickest comeback against Justin Wong in that EVO tournament (watch it if you haven't done so already).

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Oh god...yes yes, Sony made it its amazing. Just take my money...

Seriously though, it would seem like you have no clue and are just spitting out irrelevant resolution numbers. Everyone should know by now that quality of perceived resolution is dependant on viewing distance vs screen size.

While its amazing that they crammed 720p in to 0.7 inches of screen, to a user this apparently has a screen size of 750 inches from 20 meters away.

Lets take a smaller perceived screen as an example. If you take a 42 inch screen at 720p, the optimal viewing distance is 8.5 feet. If you sit any closer you will be able to make out individual pixels on a 42 inch screen, doing 720p.

Now this visor screen appeas as a 750 inch screen to the viewer...750 inch screen needs a distance of 146 feet in order for viewers not to see individual pixels. The Sony 3D visor has a viewing distance of 65 feet (20 meters) which is 2.3X closer than recomended viewing distance for such a screen. You will see some major pixelation using this product...

Funny thing is, the product I mentioned before has a resolution of 852 x 480 and shows a 75 inch image at 10 feet - http://www.avforums.com/forums/tvs/312431-optimum-screen-size-viewing-distance.html

These glasses actually have better resolution to distance/screen size ratio than Sony is offering with their glasses, as the screen is only 2X closer than recomended viewing distance. Not much better, but better enough to make your statement of "nothing compares to these on the market" look foolish.

I suggest you google screen size vs distance calculator next time before you say things like "720p on 0.7 inch screen, Amazing!".

And yes OLED is better than LCD, but at that resolution both will look pixelated.

Edit - I don't want to come of like Im hating on this cause its a neat concept. At 299, sign me up...399, maybe. But this will be 1000 bucks by the time it gets to America. I can buy a 3D projector for that much money and have just as big of a screen on my wall which my friends can share with me. Too costly for what it offers...

Have you looked at any third party sources? Any of the previews on this gadget? With all due respect, every publication out here that have looked at this thing, and oogling over it. I've literally seen no negative responses towards this thing other then people saying it looks silly. Also your wrong, it APPEARS as being 20 feet away, its a visual trick concerning the specialized optics and lens' in the device itself, as normally you wouldn't even be able to see something this close due to eye distance and the eyes ability to focus pertaining to relative distance. Also, you seem to insist that this has been done before, and there are very comparable items on the market, regardless of the fact that every person who has used the device, seems to have stated in their previews that this is a whole different level and standard then anything that has been done as of yet.

Honestly, its like you refuse to admit that this is as good as it actually is, its COMPLETELY living up to the hype, by all means, yet you still shoot it down. With all due respect, its thickheaded thinking, nothing less. How about you actually reserve your opinion until you try it out? I'm basing my opinion, moreso then anything, on third party, professional previews of the device for instance.

Also, just to throw some salt in the wound, as you don't seem to understand this yet, it's been stated multiple times, that this devices screen/picture quality surpasses that of the majority of the HDTV's out there today, in case you wanted to know. Rendering most of your argument pointless. Also, the price is more then justified, its nothing short of cutting age screen technology. However, with time, prices will go down. This is no different then any new tech entering the market.

How about this...moving forward I will hold my opinion of this until I get to try it first hand...if you do the same.

So no "this will not be that great" from me if there is no "according to these people, this is amazing" from you?

I'm actually kinda optimistic about this as I saw a post on Nvidia forums saying they may support this with 3D vision for PC. If thats the case, and this turns out as good as you say it will... there are 500+ PC games that work with this in 3D. Count me in....

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=209114&view=findpost&p=1287053

"If the HMD supports HDMI 1.4 (which I suspect it will for PS3 compatibility) we can absolutely support this with 3DTV Play. We are contacting Sony to get details so we can support it."

Meh, I'd rather just buy an average non expensive head set.

I will wait until they work out the kinks. Also I would be too afraid not knowing who or what was around me while wearing it.

Since they have 750 inches of screen realestate to work with (at 20 meter viewing distance) it would be cool if they could pu a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front, and display the image of what is happening infront of you in the top right hand corner of the screen.

So we need:

- 1080p per eye

- head tracking

- camera to record and show how your friends are leaving your house after 5 miuntes of you playing this thing alone

- headset and voice recognition for controls is a must

- 500 bucks or less

:)

It's weird how I don't have the money to go out to dinner sometimes (or so I say) but I'll definitely be able to afford this headset. When it comes to something electronic, I always manage to have a grand laying around somewhere! I'll try this out in person at Best Buy when it releases and if it's as cool as I hope it is, I'm getting it! I'll just have to lie to the old lady about the price. Still haven't let her see the 3DS I bought back in June........
