Forums - Gaming - Yakuza 5 in Development, Black Panther Sequel Due for PSP

Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi will be making some big announcements later today. Thanks to Famitsu, we know the content of the announcements, and they are quite big!

The magazine details three major Yakuza series developments this week:

First up, for those who thought Yakuza was just a five year fad, the magazine reports that Toshihiro Nagoshi has formed the Yakuza Studio. In Japanese, the studio's name is the slightly less alarming "Ryu ga Gotoku Studio."

The first game from the studio is a sequel to PSP spinoff Yakuza Black Panther. In development for PSP, the sequel is titled, in Japanese, Kurohyou 2 Ryu ga Gotoku. It retains the basic gameplay systems of its predecessor. The game will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show. A release is set for Spring 2012.

Finally, the magazine reveals that Yakuza 5 is in development.

We should get more details on these items later in the day at Sega's press conference.

Didn't they say they were done with the Yakuza franchise?

They said they were fed up.. not done.

Nice Yakuza 5 (most likely for the ps3), I am already hyped.

With the Black Panther sequel being made for PSP, I think it's quite likely that Yakuza 5 will end up being a Vita game.

Exactly what I was thinking. They said they were tired of it.

But I love Yakuza so I don't complain.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion. Black Panther was originally on the PSP, so the sequel being on it is possible. Yakuza 5 might be both vita and ps3, but I think ps3 is just a given for the mainline title. Black Panther 3 if ever made will be vita title for sure.

Just with Vita being out this Year in Japan, I find it quite weird that they'd release a game in 2012 for the PSP. Would be a great way to get some of the Yakuza fanbase onto Vita ready for any future title.

Like you say though, Vita/PS3 Multi would be a pretty good thing to do for Yakuza 5.

I'll just shh

That would be good in a way, a new studio could bring new things to the Yakuza series.
