Darth was excited about this, I wonder if he got hit by a bus. I always tried to get him to play the first one.

Whoring this game out is good... because then, that means hopefully it will sell more, and we will get more games out like this :).

Well, I hope we get more like the first if we get anymore, because at the end of the day this game was still pretty dumbed down compared to the first, and overall just worse.

I agree with you, I think you know this because I've said that before.
Swimming, ATM's, Multitools, Melee weapons, Incorporating shadows instead of just line of sight, ability to pick more thingsn up to make noise. And probably some others.

I still love this game though, it's my favorite in quite a while. Ideally I'd want them to build off this, incorporating more things from the first one, and other new things (that are good ideas). But, ideally doesn't always happen, but this game turned out a hell of a lot better than I expected when eidos announced they were making a brand new development team for this in 2007.

Yeah, the game is fantastic with some very nice ideas, but there's still room for improvement. Adding in the stuff you mentioned before, but also little things like using food/drink dispensers, usable water coolers, animals (seriously where'd the lil' cats and the charging guard dogs go?) and usable light switches (which goes hand in hand with the stealth system). None of these really effect the core gameplay but together they add an extra level of immersion.

The boss fights and the final level also felt a bit rough round the edges and could have done with a bit more time and thought.

If they iterate on this instead of dumbign it down more due to people bitching (I'm split on the boss battles) then we could actually see a game that was even better than the first one eventually. It's a pretty big IF though.

The boss battles would have been fine if they didn't feel like they were straight out of "generic FPS X". Had they had multiple paths, larger rooms and given you the ability to defeat them in a range of ways then it would have worked. As it was, that only really happened at the end.

In the original, the "boss" battles were handled fairly well. The Anna Navarre arc where you could fight in multiple locations, or choose not to fight at all was very well done. I also liked that there was more communication with the people you were eventually forced to kill. In this one, the bosses just felt forced.

I agree the bosses should have talked more and have a killswitch. Though I didn't really find them that difficult.

The last stage I do agree, I liked it, and I liked the layout, as my favorite levels are the vertical ones because I can jump, and icarus landing system people. And logically it made sense (plot spoiler which I won't say here). But it's a bit anticlimactic when people shoot you the whole game, and the last just has crazy people And turrets.  But, that PEPS minority report like gun. Is actually useful here because this is the only stage where they mob up... I'll have to remember to take more ammo next time I play it.

But the last boss battle was easily the best imo. Because you could hack quickly or find the passwords earlier in the level. Smash through walls. Hack Quickly. or just blow her up.

It wasn't the difficulty that I disliked about the bosses but the fact that they felt forced and generic. I read the acompanying book a while back but if I hadn't, I'd have no clue who they were. Gameplay-wise ,if they were handled more like the last fight, I think it'd work a lot better.

I dunno, I just remember hearing reviews saying they were really hard. I didn't upgrade my skin armour the whole game, and I beat them quickly.

I had a thought not related to anything you said. next time i get to the last stage, I'm going to make sure I take the minority report gun with ammo (PEPS) because making them fly around is much more fun, than feeling like a mass murderer.

Are the books any good?

It's definately worth reading if you're a fan of Deus Ex (so yes!). Gives a nice parallel story to HR whilst linking with the original. Also, has a young Gunther Hermann!

I've decided to give it a week break before I start another playthrough so I don't get into habits. About to start now!
