Forums - Gaming - PS3 Owners: Why haven't you bought Mass Effect 2?

Tagged games:

I'm not interested in Western RPGs. I prefer J-RPGs.

I bought the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition. Look at my games collection and see what score I gave it........it shows how much I enjoy W-RPGs.

It's next on my list of games to buy! I just need to finish inFamous2 first. Also, it would be nice if the dropped the price of the digital version on the PSN store to match the recently dropped price at retail stores :S

Got it on PC ages ago.

Because I don't want to. Why don't I want to? I didn't really care for it.

I got it on 360 thats why and it seems pretty pointless to be playing a trilogy only to start from the second arc

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Because the demo was enough, couldn't find what so special about it to be honest, good gameplay , good graphics, average animations and terrible facial animations , typical space solder story with an interesting way to tell it by letting you choose.
I didn't find the concept interesting at all, I liked Dragon age: origins much more even based only on the demo.

Using a demo of ME to guage the actual game is like using a driving experience in a mini to guage the experience of an F1 car.

There isnt an ounce of chance any demo for ME could remotely show you why the experience of ME is one of the most accomplished games this generation.

Can't believe Im agreeing with Selnor but he's right. Mass Effect has too many machinations in it that can be fit into a demo.

The fact is, it's a port, and PS3 owners (not to insult) are too arrogent to realize this is probably the best game ever made this gen.

I completely disagree. I think arrogance has very little to do with it (sure it's part of some people's thinking, but it by no means accounts for much of the differnce in sales). The demographic preferences are just different. WRPGs of any stripe don't sell anywhere near as well on PS3, late port or no.

Mass Effect 2 is as much of an RPG as Dead Space 2 and that game sold close to 1 million on PS3. The Elder Scrolls 4 which was a port, sold 2.20 million, but I think that sold well because PS3 before 2009 really lacked software. Dragon Age 1 sold 1.30 million, and ME2 is much much better then all of those.

Lol, hell no! ME2 is not "much much better" than Oblivion. I prefer Oblivion to it.

Also the main reason why it hasn't sold very much is that it's the second game in a heavily story reliant series and the first game in said series to release on the ps3...it was a big mistake to not release ME1 first from the beginning on the PS3.

That 1 game is debatable, but still Oblivion sold 2.20 million, and it was a port, where Mass Effect 2 is a remake, using the new engine.

I think it was a mistake releasing ME2 on PS3 altogether, this should have stayed exclusive, but EA got publishing rights over Microsoft and made it a shooter franchise.

Also I still say arrogence when I read comments like this:

Couldn't care less about the ME series, that's why. Demon's Souls, Valkyrie Chronicles and Fallout 3 (when it isn't glitching or crashing) are fine for my RPG needs on PS3.

Mass Effect 2 is just so much better then those RPG's, you can't just ignore it. Same with Lost Odyssey and other RPG's. If Valkyria Chronciles went multiconsole, I'd definatly buy it for my 360 (since my PS3 is bust, and to support JRPG's on western consoles).

I know Bioware isnt known for their GOTYs like Bethesda but the Dragon Age Ultimate Edition includes really everything and if I wait long enough I hope there will be a Mass Effect Ultimate Edition Trilogy on 360 that includes everything related to Mass Effect. In 2 years maybe ?

Maybe, but this type of trilogy will be limited time. Just like the Ultimate Edition of Dragon Age and MGS 1-3 for PS2. If it does come out on 360 (as opposed to its successor console), this generation of gaming will be ending, and from my experience buying games for a past gen console, it takes more effort to beat them.

Is it worth waiting that long? I'm a patient guy too, most of my games I get for $20 when they are a year old, or like Fallout as GOTY editions, but I just wouldn't be able to wait that long for a franchise that good. Then again, waiting for the finale is killing me.

You're the only one that's arrogant in this thread. The fact that you can't grasp the concept that people have different opinions and continue to spout your opinion around as fact. That's one of the most idiot things I've read on this site. There is absolutely no way to objectively prove that Mass Effect is better than any of those games. Hell, the core gameplay of all those games are completely different. The games cater to different experiences that satisfy different people's wants. You just can't grasp that concept for some reason.

The irony in your post is hilarious:
