+1 for the simpsons reference.
Moving on.....I own 3 Samsung flatscreens a 19 lcd/27 lcd and 42" Plasma. The lcd looks really good cause it is smaller, the lack of contrast is not really noticeable until you get to larger sizes. Most large LCD's(32 and bigger) get very blocky and weird looking when showing a lot of blacks/grays. For the record I used to work in a retail store and have spent a lot of time looking at the HD Tv's. LCD's look nice with older systems (16/32/64 bit) more so than plasmas. LCDs are lighter and use less energy. If you are to get an LCD I highly reccomend the Sharp Aquos line. Those things are ungodly.
My 42" Plasma is a thing of beauty, games look vibrant and colorful. Big drawbacks are the power consumption and if you leave a still image on screen it gets pretty bad screen burn, which is reversable but it takes some time. This new years I put on a South Park DVD and when I woke up from passing out most of my friends were gone and the still menu was on. There was some pretty nasty screen burn and we had to run the burn in program to reverse the problem. Keep in mind this image was on screen for a couple hours. HUD's,scoreboards and other things that are on the screen all the time on games will burn in but will dissapear after a few minutes of TV.Upscaled DVDs look amazing. Owning a 42" tv really wows people, everyone compliments it when they first come by our house.
When it comes to 1080P I hear its really nice for games but if you do make sure your screens native resolution is 1920x1080. If the resolution is lower it nullifys the point. I do not advocate any of the HD movie formats, but either way I have heard that 1080i is the same as 1080p due to the fact movies are not shot in full HD.
Get yourself a nce upscaling DVD player(PS3 will do, I dont know how good the 360 is) and forget the lame HD formats.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
