Why not? By then they'll have the perfect excuse to not develop for the 3DS altogether (that is, a non-Nintendo platform will exist, aside from the persistent presence of iOS)

Exactly. Nintendo needs to stop bending over backwards for 3rd party developers. They need to focus on strengthening 1st party titles. I hope they realize that 3rd parties will do the samething to the Wii U. No, Nintendo those 3rd party ports shown at E3 were fool's gold.

It's not necessarily Ubisoft that has gone stupid, it's the gaming sites quoting the Gamesindustry article... The actual article attributes the bad quotes to an anonymous third party, not Ubisoft -

Now that sounds about right. I was alittle suprised that UbiSoft would say something like that about Nintendo. UbiSoft likes to profit off of every Nintendo platform by bringing ports and lower budget titles out near launch. It would send a bad message to their investors if they didn't have faith in Nintendo's hardware. Especially considering sales on Nintendo consoles make up a ton of UbiSoft's profit.

Also UbiSoft would be foolish to make such a remark because Nintendo is definatly watching and right now UbiSoft is one of their favorite third parties. If UbiSoft upset Nintendo too much I'm sure Nintendo would go to another third party for support, meaning no advance dev kits for Nintendo platforms. Which would mean UbiSoft couldn't launch titles with Nintendo's consoles anymore. Which also bring in a ton of profit.

If UbiSoft were to officially make this statement they would likely wait to see WiiU go down in flames. Then make a comment of this nature about Nintendo. But right now UbiSoft is hard at work on WiiU and they don't want to see Nintendo stop seeing them as a favorite third party!

IF it is a major developer, my guess would be EA. But they're a publisher, or would they be called a developer? Then again it could be someone not invested at all in Nintendo, it wouldn't be the first time gamesindustry.biz were trolling Nintendo (trolling by way of quoting someone not invested in Nintendo. e.g. a Sony developer, and then letting them remain anonymous so as to have anyone guess at who the developer is...)

If you actually think about it it's very smart decision. If you don't have project for 3DS started you lose at most 4-5 months by playing the watching game.
