Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo ready to win this Holiday Season?

Never underestimate the power of the Wii during the holidays. Last year it had amazing sales and had, what, Donkey Kong Country as the main holiday game? This year it has Skyward Sword and a cheaper price, not to mention a redesign in Europe. And just think about all of those millions of kids/families ready for their first game console this holiday. It'll be interesting to see Wii vs 360 here in America.

In any case, 3DS is gonna own this holiday. With the right advertising for Mario and especially Mario Kart, it'll sell in droves.

If I go by past trends. The wii will easily win these holidays. Dunno about 2nd though.

Which would be a mistake.

Wii gets the craziest boosts in the holidays my friend. The only way it'll lose if the other two do really well or the wii gets so low that it'll be impossiablr to recover by the holidays. The wii at worst could behind first place by 25k to 30k for me to consider myself wrong by october. Its less then 10k on the week ending of Auguest 6th

Not really, the gap each xmas is getting smaller and smaller, Japan it'll be lucky to clear 400k over November and December combined. America 360 will take (with a  price cut it'll storm it) and EMEAA wii will slightly beat out X360, although it hasn't thrashed it there this year either.

If all you have is 'oh well past xmas's Wii has catapulted to 1st, then you're not going to get very far. Nothing is set and stone and Wii has fallen far harder this year than last year, and that's with a price cut.

3DS will make up for a weaker Wii performance overall, to be sure.

The real question is how well the 3DS will do overall, what level they can actually hit.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo certainly has some heavy ammunition in their corner. I wouldn't bet against them.

Week on October 30th
360 213,045
Wii 278,973

Week ending of December 25th
Wii 1,458,016
360 1,114,283

Amount of increase
Wii 1,179,043
360 901,238

See what I mean? And 360 had kinect.  The wii only had bundles and Donkey kong.  Expect the 360 to win with a price cut at best.  and that's if they come with one.

360 had pretty severe supply issues, whereas Nintendo had the opposite.

Q1 shipments

360 - 2.7
Wii - 1.37

Not to mention that was last year.

lol like if Xenoblade could help in the slightest.

Nintendo will win because of 3DS (and maybe DS), but will most likely be third on home consoles, with a TON of luck it could be second.

3ds will sell a ton between now and end of the year
wii, not unless the system hits the $99 price point before black friday.
360 i think will be the top selling console this holiday.

No, it isn't. DS will most likely sell nicely, but that's about it.

The Wii will definitely do even lower numbers than last year, since it has no good games for christmas that will help sell it. As for the 3DS, maybe Mario Kart 7 will help it avoid being a complete failure, but that's about it. But having seen the Gamescon footage, it seems more doubtful, though there's still a chance I guess.

Oh, and hah at Kinect helping the 360 sell. Not going to happen.
