Abercrombie to pay 'Jersey Shore' cast to stop wearing its clothes

Clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch said it would offer "substantial payment" to MTV's The Jersey Shore's cast members to stop wearing the brand on air.

Mike “the Situation“ Sorrentino may have to find some new attire for his “gym, tan, laundry“ routine.

“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino's association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans,“ an Abercrombie & Fitch spokesperson said in a statement. "We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response."

The reality show, currently in its fourth season, features hard-partying and hookups in locations ranging from the show's origin, the Jersey Shore to the current season in Florence, Italy.

LMAO that is priceless.

Apparently not a great decision as following this Abercrombies stock dropped almost 10 % in one day.

I find this sad really that this walking STD has such an influence on culture that he can temporarily effect a stocks price.

Investors are morons. It's a point i've made previously, that only keeps reinforcing itself.

I wouldn’t say that investors are morons, but I do believe that after more than a decade of talking babies and other slick advertising campaigns we have created a market where most of the "investors" are unsophisticated speculative traders that are only interested in short term gains; and most CEOs are only interested in ensuring their next quarter's results are good, and don't have much of a long term plan.

On the surface, it seems that Ambercrombie & Fitch is the exception to this and, rather than take advantage of the short term popularity of "The Situation" and do immense damage to their brand long term, they have decided to protect their brand to ensure that their company is still viable 5 years from now.

Is this a first somehow? I've never heard of a company paying someone TO NOT wear/use their products before.

Well done. The only noticeable feature of MTV is that against all odds, it always manages to increase its crappiness.
