| Narishma said: I disagree. You assume that Activision will only release that COD on the next gen Xbox. More likely they'll release it on everything under the sun like they always do, so PS3 (and Xbox 360) fans will still get their version and it won't be very different from the next gen version except maybe in graphics. Just look at the Wii version of Black Ops. For a casual player it's the same as the PS3/360 version. |
correct but those that want the best gaming experience will not by it for 360 or PS3 since COD is such a huge franchise there is more possibility of gamers going to next gen console for it compared to any other game... well maybe GTA could have a similar effect
i use COD b/c it is possible that they will release every year and not miss MS next console on launch there are exclusive game changers like Halo gears forza GT uncharted GOW and even new IPs like we had this gen but i dont feel that any will launch with the new xbox and PS
i believe that the only way sony wont have issues with COD is if COD skips releasing the year the new xbox launches possibly b/c of needing more time with the new game engine and that the next gen COD would release the year after on both MS and sonys next gen consoles
but even with that possibility there is a possibility that the next gen COD on next xbox will still use the current engine which would still have game experience benefits just look at COD BO on PC vs console screens HD resultion found only on PC makes a real difference with the texture quaility
also the same can be said for the next Nintendo console b/c its releasing next year and i believe BF3 will make its way there, next years COD isnt out of the question but i feel that the majority of COD fans wont flock to the next Nintendo console b/c of possible issues with there controller and online capabilities vs sonys and MSs

Play Me
well actually call of duty 2 released on x360 and pc at launched of 360 and wasnt on ps3

Not at all, an watered down version on a last gen console is just less appealing, graphics are one thing but if you can play with less on a map and features are cut then the jump to an other console by some fans sounds reasonable.

With any luck Call of Duty dies before next gen, and as many people who buy it it's not really a system seller until it has an install base. It's a casual game and casual gamers don't usually buy consoles until they've been out for awhile.
This is a very interesting theory. History has shown that releasing a console late is a disadvantage that is rarely overcome. The existence of a single, very popular online multiplayer game like Call of Duty has never existed before during a console launch. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
My guess, is that it will add to the advantage that the first released consoles have. I can already guess that just about every reviewer out there will give better marks to the new CoD on the next gen consoles than the same game released on the PS3. People will still buy the new CoD on the PS3, but many will be tempted to upgrade. Once people do upgrade, that will delay or even stop the purchase of a PS4 when it eventually comes out.

Like many have said COD will probably release on all viable platforms available. Therefore I think your theory relies on two factors that may or may not come to be. Firstly, the next xbox console needs to have a feature or something that actually makes people want to buy it aside from graphics. Secondly the next COD game then needs to take advantage of that unique feature and promote it as the definitive COD experience.
In that case then yes i agree with you.
If there's nothing substantial separating the next Xbox from the current Xbox, or again nothing substantial separating the ps3 COD experience from that of the next Xbox then i don't agree with you.
So to conclude, it all depends on the next generation consoles (new features, gimmicks, etc.) and how the developers of COD take advantage of said features (and also to a certain degree how they market it).
Im pretty sure if they have a ps3 version, Xbox 360 version as well as a next Xbox version, Activision wouldn't want to purposefully hurt the sales of either unless they know for sure there will be a huge payoff.
