I was doing some pondering about the next gen and Sony's PS4 when COD came to my mind aswell its no secret that the franchise is one of the biggest if not the biggest gaming has ever seen, the games releasing year after year are surpassing most everyones sales expectations, even the PS3s sku. I believe this will continue with MW3 set to release this year and the rest of the CODs this gen and the next, with this belief comes some concern for Sony and there release strategies going forward. The PS3 released a full year later than the 360 and even more than a year in Europe, if MS release there next gen Xbox a year earlier again i believe the PS3 will be at a bigger disadvantage than it was this gen.
I believe this because if we simply look at the last installment of COD Black ops you'll see that it sold upwards of 10M in its first week across all platforms and by the end of that year it sold double that. Now if the next MS console releases earlier than Sony's and by that time COD will be running on a new engine it wouldnt be hard for me to believe that even half of the audience from Black Ops' data would want to have the best possible experience with there COD and other than a PC they would have to go with MSs next gen console. I believe this would put Sony at a severe disadvantage even on a global scale, MS will have a huge heads up in terms of market share by the time Sony releases there PS4 and we see how this affected Sony this gen with the minor advantage MS had the gen in terms of releasing early
