that is some bullshit right thar...I will be waiting until it's in the bargain bin then
seriously what's with companies trying to kill the used game market...

I think it is a fair criticism, and though many developers may follow similar practices with their own games. That does not mean that practice isn't despicable. The truth is that consumers do own their games. Even if they do not own the rights to their games. That is why we can sell our old games, modify our old games, or destroy our games if we choose to do so. The developer has no right to our property. They can deny us external access if they like, but we should have what is in our hands.
I think if placed in any other context most consumers would have the same reservations. Would you buy a used car if say buying used caused the radio to stop working. How about a used home. How would you feel if buying it used caused the front lawn to die. I know it all sounds like hyperbole, but that is the thing about inching over the line it isn't long before you find you gave them an inch, and they took a mile.
So I applaud the original poster for his convictions. I say if it is on the disc, and you paid for that disc it should be yours whether you bought it retail or used. There are a lot of games I refuse to buy for these same reasons, and their are developers I refuse to buy from, because they horde extra pay content on their games. Lets call this out for what it really is. Developers squatting on other peoples property.
So I support those who will not buy this game on the grounds of principle. Hell I support those people that will take the time to jailbreak this content. Whatever is on that disc is fair game as far as I am concerned. All these sad end around attacks on the secondary market are entirely juvenile. People who buy your game used were highly unlikely to buy it new in the first place, and if you want to stymy that market your best bet is a high quality game with a lot of replay potential. Those are the games that are hard to find used, because most people will not sell their copy.
All things like this do is detract from a games reputation and by proxy the developers reputation as well. Will this detour me from buying the game. Well it is going to dampen my enthusiasm, but I personally have more then one principle to defend. I don't want to reward practices like this, but I also want to reward high quality games. If I do not buy good games then they will not be made.
I was almost on board for picking this title up over Dead Island. However this has put me back in the undecided column. Worse yet starting to get excited about this game made me feel like I needed another first person fix to go along with Skyrim which I do intend to pick up. So it has me reconsidering Battlefield 3.
I will buy it new, but when I finish Fallout:NV and Skyrim :D. Those 2 games will drain my life.
I think that this is great, used game sales must die!! >_<. If developers get more money for a game, we get better games and sequels for the games we like :)
No, I am not being sarcastic.
Well I won't be buying it until I can get it very cheap then!
IF YOU LIKE IT JUST BUY IT!!! is it sooo hard to do so?? I really dont understand why people that intended to buy a new copy of this game in the first place; are not going to buy it now after this. Do this "new" thing makes your new game worst???.....NO
If this is so "disrespectful" for you, then I wonder what you are planning to do against CAPCOM for the crap they are doing with Ultimate MvsC3. I bought the collectors Edition of the first one, and guess what, it is now obsolete HELL YEAH!!! And don't forget, that they do this nonsense probably to add an online pass for the game in order to play online; because the 1st one didnt had one LOL!!!
Some of the people that are mad about this; is because they were going to buy this game used; and guess what, the company dont give a damn about what you think or what you want, because you are not that one giving them money in order to pay the salaries of the people that works there and developed the game. So if you dont buy it, THEY WONT CARE.

For the company that makes the game is better for them that, because by buying a new copy of the game for 20 bucks (or even 1 dollar) you are giving money to the developer, instead of giving it to GAMESTOP by buying a used copy for 30.

I know. I'm not trying to punish developers or anything I just can't afford a lot.

You seriously think it's a good thing to buy the game NEW at $20 or even at $1?
Let's say the game retail for $60. After factored in all the expenses to get that game to retail for you to buy, let's assume the break even price of the game is $25... Someone has to foot that loses and whoever that is, isn't going to be happy with you buying it for $20 or less.
Big no from me. I don't think I'm buying the game unless it's completely DRM-free, and even then I'll actually have to consider. (Not that I had big plans to buy it any time soon anyway but I was definitely interested.)
